ϡ - Chapter TwentyThree; In which one deals with tricky spells [video/action for housemates/voice]

[ You can have a view of Helios leaning back in his chair, rather comfortably actually. He's in his room and in said background are scattered papers and objects. Incidentally he doesn't have his glasses on today, might be due to the fact that he's conducting a delicate experiment in his room. Keyword being delicate. If you catch a glimpse of any of the papers in the background it'll make no sense if you can't read runes. Though one in particular has the diagram of a ring with various lines and runic lettering on it. Helios will lean forward smiling at the journal. ]

Ah, I hope it's on. Erm, yes. [ Clearing his throat he still doesn't get these things. He just brings a hand to his chin, characteristic thoughtful pose is go! ]

I wonder...many of you know about magic, of course. But how many of you can actually apply magical attributes to an inanimate object? Like--ah, enchantments! They're rather tricky and if done wrong they can well...blow up in your face- [ Or you colleague's faces. ] -but they can be used for all sorts of things. Like making a sword into a flaming sword by applying a fire spell to said sword, and when the right incantation is spoken it alights!

[ A thoughtful hum. ] Also are there any myths or legends in your worlds based around objects? Like Excalibur, hammer of Thor, or maybe even the holy grail? Just wondering...all out of curiosity. [ And possibly to further his own research, maybe even get some help on the little project he's been doing since Halloween. Except during his little questioning session the spell he was trying to place on said inanimate objects will begin to sizzle in the background. Smoke is going to start clouding the video and sparks can be seen as well. His eyes will widen as he turns abruptly knocking the journal on the floor and turning off the video function but not the voice. ]

Oh! No-no not again. This wasn't supposed to--! [ There's a very loud bang and the room shakes with it. Sorry housemates there will be a spillage of black, with what seems to have shards of diamonds sprinkled throughout it, smoke coming from Helios' room as he slams the door open. Helios' face will also bear the marks of said explosion as he tumbles out of the room, face and clothes covered in black soot, but he at least has journal in hand. Also people over the journals can hear him coughing rather a lot. Before long you'll hear him laughing though, replying rather amused. ] Ah, yes, very tricky!

[ Going to be brushing off the fact that just happened. You didn't hear anything, everything is fine. Okay, well, Frederic and Giles might be a tad bit annoyed. ]

Um, right, welcome to Luceti all of you who've just been brought here! It takes a bit to get used to everything but we luckily have a nice welcoming committee! You're free to answer those questions as well if you want to! Anyone can as they are open to everyone to answer.

[ Don't mind the fact he just blew himself up, nope. A brief pause on his end. ]

Hm...oh, is that on fire? That is on fire. Just-just a moment. [ Going to go put that out now yup and you can just...talk to him after wards. Derpy derp nice way to introduce yourself to all the new people, Helios. ]

[ Not to worry Roji this is like commonplace for him. Which is saying something...probably nothing good. ] Oh yes! Perfectly fine! Just a bit of a set back, you know how progress goes.

[After hearing and seeing what happened over the journal, he leaves the flower tending he was doing to go back inside of the apartment. Once inside, he sees the mess Helios created and only sighs as he puts a hand to his face.]

[ Most of the smoke has dissipated at least? Still coughing a little he'll clear his throat. That expression, Frederic. Helios will rub the back of his neck once again clearing his throat and looking around. Who made this mess? Not him! ] Oh! Frederic you're back! You-um...the spell...it-it went a little wrong.

[ This is what happens when you leave him home alone. ]

I don't know about implementing such enchantments, but my weapon is a sword that allows me to utilize my ki to create a flame dragon from it. And the gods have long enhanced metals to serve as restricting devices.

As for legends, the most famous from my world involve the Tenchi Kaigen Kyoumon, which were used in the creation of the universe.

[Oh look, fire. Homura laughs lightly.]

Ki...Qi. [ Just pausing to think here. ] Mm so you use your own energy then? I can see that working far better than a simple spell. Though the draw backs would be blocking such energy channels...meridians I believe their called.

Ah creation myths are always interesting! They're so many variations to them. Would you mind explaining a bit more? [ A bit off topic but you know Helios loves a good myth like the rest of them. Just a sheepish laugh at the next statement though. ]

[What the actual hell, Helios? Giles yelps at the explosion that rocks the apartment, ducking his head against his guitar in preparation for an attack before sense catches up with him and he realizes that the feed he's been half listening to on his journal and the noises of the apartment have just gotten in sync.

After that, he can turn his attention to assessing the damages.

...you made Giles break a string. He is going to have words with you for that. But, priorities. Have an admittedly annoyed Giles coming over to you to see if you need help, Helios. You don't sound like you do, because you're still talking, but he still isn't quite sure what you were doing in there so better safe than sorry.

...and judging from the smell, something is on fire. Great. He'll hurry, just not enough that he loses track of where he is again.

His eyes are open, properly open even with the lights on, for the first time in weeks, and the faintest hints of color are starting to return to his eyes. He still can't see, but by now he's memorized damn near every inch of the apartment. So he pauses by the area around Helios' open door, arms folded, listening with no small degree of interest to the sound of his friend trying to douse the fire.]

So. Fire. Not a success, I take it.

Is the apartment going to burn down?

[ Giles if you could see him Helios will be flailing almost dropping that bowl which was housing said mishap spell. Because he was totally not expecting you to be here. But he will knock into his dresser with a hiss a few things clattering around as he turns towards Giles. ] Giles! Oh you were...you were here.

[ Of course you were, he kinda forgot, derp. Just a laugh. ]

No-no it's fine! It was a small fire, nothing a little water spell can't handle.

Well, there's the Rings of Chantál, and King Philemon's chains, and the shit Obscuratists get up to, you know, with the cursing doors and floorboards and shit. Oh, and poor Lady Penelope's cursed bed. You probably heard song and dance with Levant's throne room by now, too.

[ He might be writing these down, because he's actually not too familiar with them. ] Cursed bed, hm? I know most artifacts are...um cursed. Enchantments, unfortunately, are not usually used for good purposes. More than likely to keep people from using said artifacts. But this certainly will help.

Oh heavens I can't stop now. I almost have it...it's just...still a bit finicky. All this hocus as you call it, is for a good cause I assure you.

[Whatever ends up happening with Adell, yesterday, it hurts just as much today, feels just as much like an emotional kick in the stomach.

Part of Robert desperately wants to be alone, desperately wants to withdraw from everybody and everything, and it takes a Herculean amount of effort to finally contact Helios after hours of making a filter for this message, only to find himself putting it off and deflecting it and trying in vain to ignore just how much it hurts - Don't get close, you can't get close, what if you lose him too?]

[ Robert doesn't sound good at all. It actually brings Helios to worry rather abruptly and you'll hear him sit up straighter in his chair. Now that his room is back in order he can get on with things as normal, possibly go about and try to fix his spell again.

But he knows this he's going to put it off, if only to make sure Robert is okay. ] Robert?

Zaiphon? Is there some sort of spell applied to the object beforehand? So this Zaiphon can be properly connected to said inanimate objects?
