ϡ - Chapter TwentyThree; In which one deals with tricky spells [video/action for housemates/voice]
[ You can have a view of Helios leaning back in his chair, rather comfortably actually. He's in his room and in said background are scattered papers and objects. Incidentally he doesn't have his glasses on today, might be due to the fact that he's conducting a delicate experiment in his room. Keyword being delicate. If you catch a glimpse of any of the papers in the background it'll make no sense if you can't read runes. Though one in particular has the diagram of a ring with various lines and runic lettering on it. Helios will lean forward smiling at the journal. ]
Ah, I hope it's on. Erm, yes. [ Clearing his throat he still doesn't get these things. He just brings a hand to his chin, characteristic thoughtful pose is go! ]
I wonder...many of you know about magic, of course. But how many of you can actually apply magical attributes to an inanimate object? Like--ah, enchantments! They're rather tricky and if done wrong they can well...blow up in your face- [ Or you colleague's faces. ] -but they can be used for all sorts of things. Like making a sword into a flaming sword by applying a fire spell to said sword, and when the right incantation is spoken it alights!
[ A thoughtful hum. ] Also are there any myths or legends in your worlds based around objects? Like Excalibur, hammer of Thor, or maybe even the holy grail? Just wondering...all out of curiosity. [ And possibly to further his own research, maybe even get some help on the little project he's been doing since Halloween. Except during his little questioning session the spell he was trying to place on said inanimate objects will begin to sizzle in the background. Smoke is going to start clouding the video and sparks can be seen as well. His eyes will widen as he turns abruptly knocking the journal on the floor and turning off the video function but not the voice. ]
Oh! No-no not again. This wasn't supposed to--! [ There's a very loud bang and the room shakes with it. Sorry housemates there will be a spillage of black, with what seems to have shards of diamonds sprinkled throughout it, smoke coming from Helios' room as he slams the door open. Helios' face will also bear the marks of said explosion as he tumbles out of the room, face and clothes covered in black soot, but he at least has journal in hand. Also people over the journals can hear him coughing rather a lot. Before long you'll hear him laughing though, replying rather amused. ] Ah, yes, very tricky!
[ Going to be brushing off the fact that just happened. You didn't hear anything, everything is fine. Okay, well, Frederic and Giles might be a tad bit annoyed. ]
Um, right, welcome to Luceti all of you who've just been brought here! It takes a bit to get used to everything but we luckily have a nice welcoming committee! You're free to answer those questions as well if you want to! Anyone can as they are open to everyone to answer.
[ Don't mind the fact he just blew himself up, nope. A brief pause on his end. ]
Hm...oh, is that on fire? That is on fire. Just-just a moment. [ Going to go put that out now yup and you can just...talk to him after wards. Derpy derp nice way to introduce yourself to all the new people, Helios. ]

You know, common sense would say you'd practice that outside. Away from the flammable stuff.
[Voice]
Oh...yes that-that would be a good idea for next time. I didn't think it would get so--unstable so quickly. I did have a barrier up, so, that took much of the brunt of the explosion at least!
[Voice]
Let me guess - you're a professor of some sort.
[Voice]
[ He's curious as to how you almost guessed right. ]
[Voice]
[Hellboy acknowledges that he's being rude, but you got him just mad enough not to care.]
[Voice]
Oh heaven's no! I definately wouldn't teach my students this. Far too advanced and far too finicky when it comes to beginners. You have to start simple when it comes to magic and spells. It'd be dreadful if something went wrong...I don't think I could forgive myself for something like that. [ A slight pause. ]
I don't exactly have many...magically adept students to teach either. [ Mainly because he's been ostracized from the magical community. ]
Most of my students are normal humans actually. They'd probably think I was crazy if I tried teaching them the runic symbols for a spell!
[ He probably shouldn't mention the demons and mythological creatures inhabiting his school, right? That might make the other mad. Or more mad so...refraining. ]
[Voice]
All for the better, I'd say. I've seen things like that go too damn wrong too many damn times.
[Voice]
It's, it's not something you play with. These spells and others are dangerous. Which is why I put up the necessary precautionary measures. In case something happened, definately not for beginners. And sometimes not even for experienced users either.
[ His tone might drop a fraction, might sound a bit dreary and mellow even. ]
[Voice]
But he gets the sense that this guy's already been through a lot, and he can't help feeling sorry for him for one reason or another.]
All it does is cause trouble.
[Psychics and pyrokinetics are one thing. This... this's different.]
[Voice]
I-I wasn't trying to cause trouble actually. I'm doing this little experiment for the betterment, or I hope betterment, of the community as a whole.
[ Just going to tap a finger on his desk, now that everything is pretty much back in order on his end. ] I need to find a way of binding this spell to my ring. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I suppose trial and error is the only way. [ Annoyed sigh. ]
If I can just...figure it out, it might be usable in time for the next experiment we're thrown into. It hasn't been going quite like I planned however.
[Voice]
A guy I once knew said "Using the supernatural to combat the supernatural is a slippery slope." Trouble happens even if you don't look for it.
[Those were the words of his own adoptive father. And every time he said it, he could feel the irony sting like a wasp. And the the more he sees, the more it burns. He's a living example of that philosophy, much as he tries to deny it.]
[Voice]
A very bold and true statement. I think I agree wholeheartedly with it, actually. Even if you don't think something can go wrong, it still can. [ It's made him all the wiser, all the more cautious. Too bad he hadn't heard such words when he was younger. ]
[Voice]
I didn't catch your name.
[Voice]
Helios Sprensonne. And you are?
[Voice]
Hellboy. And I wasn't exactly being polite myself.
[Voice]
I probably shouldn't have brushed it off as something so unimportant, really.
[Voice]
I have to admit that kind of stuff rubs me the wrong way.
[Voice]
When it's used wrong I can't say it doesn't strike me well either. [ A thought. ]
You've been around magic before, then? I-I'm guessing it wasn't being used properly though. It's easy to-to abuse.
[Voice]
[He's not gonna sit here and preach at you, buddy. He's made his point.]
[Voice]
[Voice]
[Now to business, because he thinks you might be able to help him, or at least know of someone who could.]
Has anyone tried any kind of magic on the barrier?
[Voice]
If only it were that easy.
[Voice]
Maybe there's another way. Digging?
[Voice]
[Voice]
[And he's out of questions for now. Seems like all he can do is go out there and see it for himself.]
Well, thanks for the help. I know these books aren't exactly secure, so if there's anything else, just let me know.
