[ You can have a view of Helios leaning back in his chair, rather comfortably actually. He's in his room and in said background are scattered papers and objects. Incidentally he doesn't have his glasses on today, might be due to the fact that he's conducting a delicate experiment in his room. Keyword being delicate. If you catch a glimpse of any of the papers in the background it'll make no sense if you can't read runes. Though one in particular has the diagram of a ring with various lines and runic lettering on it. Helios will lean forward smiling at the journal. ]

Ah, I hope it's on. Erm, yes. [ Clearing his throat he still doesn't get these things. He just brings a hand to his chin, characteristic thoughtful pose is go! ]

I wonder...many of you know about magic, of course. But how many of you can actually apply magical attributes to an inanimate object? Like--ah, enchantments! They're rather tricky and if done wrong they can well...blow up in your face- [ Or you colleague's faces. ] -but they can be used for all sorts of things. Like making a sword into a flaming sword by applying a fire spell to said sword, and when the right incantation is spoken it alights!

[ A thoughtful hum. ] Also are there any myths or legends in your worlds based around objects? Like Excalibur, hammer of Thor, or maybe even the holy grail? Just wondering...all out of curiosity. [ And possibly to further his own research, maybe even get some help on the little project he's been doing since Halloween. Except during his little questioning session the spell he was trying to place on said inanimate objects will begin to sizzle in the background. Smoke is going to start clouding the video and sparks can be seen as well. His eyes will widen as he turns abruptly knocking the journal on the floor and turning off the video function but not the voice. ]

Oh! No-no not again. This wasn't supposed to--! [ There's a very loud bang and the room shakes with it. Sorry housemates there will be a spillage of black, with what seems to have shards of diamonds sprinkled throughout it, smoke coming from Helios' room as he slams the door open. Helios' face will also bear the marks of said explosion as he tumbles out of the room, face and clothes covered in black soot, but he at least has journal in hand. Also people over the journals can hear him coughing rather a lot. Before long you'll hear him laughing though, replying rather amused. ] Ah, yes, very tricky!

[ Going to be brushing off the fact that just happened. You didn't hear anything, everything is fine. Okay, well, Frederic and Giles might be a tad bit annoyed. ]

Oh it-it is. Just having a bit of, aha, trouble with this spell I've been working on. I assure you though nothing got damaged though! [ Thank gods he put that barrier up beforehand. ]

Besides some ruined clothes and black soot I'm perfectly fine. I had a barrier spell up just in case something like this happened. And happen it does, rather a lot, unfortunately.

It's good that you were prepared, but that does seem unfortunate.

It's this spell. Been giving me nothing but trouble. Mainly why I asked if anyone has anymore experience in the matter of enchantments that might be helpful. [ He'll be sifting through papers on his end now. ]

Nothing seems to be working. I don't know what I could possibly try next.

What were you trying to accomplish?

Well I was trying to put a sound canceling spell onto my ring. I've done a mirage like effect back at home. But I can't seem to figure out the right symbols to do the same thing for this type of spell. It's so when the wearer puts the ring on it affects them so they can't hear outside sounds.

[ It might sound strange but the ordeal during Halloween left a very nasty scar. ]

Sound canceling... hm. I can't say I'm familiar with anything like that. And you can't figure out what it is that leads to the undesired results?

Mm I've been using Frederic's piano as well as other instruments to get get a better range that can be canceled.

But...no, I can't seem to figure out what's going wrong exactly. I think it might be the symbols I've been using. I think I might have used a few that didn't fit well together. Caused an adverse reaction...

Is there a way to study them individually to see why that would happen?

You mean study the symbols separately to see how they react with one another? [ A hum from his end. It could work with a little fine tuning. ]

In theory it definately could work. But it would take sometime trying to puzzle it together.

It might be worth it to take the time. At least that way you may get an idea of what to avoid for future tests.

You're right. I-I should probably speak to other magic users about this. I'm not sure if runes from other worlds would be the same though.

[ So many variables to consider. ]

They probably would not, but there's never a harm in making comparisons, or getting other opinions.

Or learning new magic for that matter. [ He'd love that, honestly. ]

Hm. You wouldn't happen to know anyone who might be proficient in this sort of thing, would you?

... I can't say for certain as far as others go, but I have to admit, I'm curious in having a look myself. [Hermione comes to mind, but the girl likely was still readjusting to the idea of being in Luceti.]

Oh? I apologize for getting ahead of myself. Learning about different kinds of magic is fascinating. It makes me often wonder at how we still continue to group it all under the same heading, when there are so many different aspects involved.

Mm it would be easier to group them by how they're approached, wouldn't it? I suppose it's such a broad subject though that it's easier to just classify everything as magic, then use subcategories. Like incantations, spell circles, summoning circles, enchantments and the like.

So far I've mostly been grouping the details by world, though even that's broad. Not everyone uses the same terminology, so there's the concern of uses being grouped improperly. Perhaps during the summer I can work on a better format for it.

Mm if you're good with runes then I'm sure you'll be invaluable. Ah, not that not being so would change that any. The more help I can get the better as I seem to have come to a bit of a standstill with this spell.

I can see where you're having difficulty. The worldly terminology is a bit of a problem. If you'd allow it, I'd like to repay you for helping me with this spell. I could...perhaps help you organize it? If you need any assistance that is.
