ϡ - Chapter FiftyTwo; Let's talk about magic [action|voice]

[ Today Helios can be found in his usual haunts. He’ll take a day off from the library to practice his magic in the afternoon after school. Anyone near the edge of town of by the lake will hear and see crackles of thunder, loud bangs of fire and flashes of light erupting along the coastline of the lake itself. It’s out of the way enough that it won’t affect anyone but people can still see it from the edge of town. There’s a few targets made of clay, dirt, and mud all around the area should anyone actually venture out to see what’s going on. Each clay figure is sporting different elementally inflicted wounds. Helios himself has a worked up a good sweat at least and he’ll wipe his brow free before going to his journal. He’ll be standing in the middle of it all with a satisfied look on his face. ]

I was wondering if anyone would like to have a spar. Ah, well, a magical one that is. I-I’ve been neglecting my duties to practice for a while now, and since the weather is nice today I thought it’d be good to get some practice in. [ The Battle Dome scares him, okay? Otherwise he would have used that to train but…how does he technology? ] I’m by the lake if anyone would like to join me for a few one on one sessions. [ And here he’ll pause for a moment before continuing to talk. ]

But beside that. There’s a magic club here that I-I’ve also been neglecting, which is unfair to the members who joined it some time ago. I was wondering if anyone would like to meet, perhaps this Saturday by the beach. I’ve been meaning to get some ideas and thoughts about a certain flying ship, but I haven’t actually made much progress on my own. I-I’d really love to chat and speak with you all again, new arrivals are welcome to stop by as well. It’s pretty much open to everyone, really, there’s no limitations even if you’re not a magic user yourself. There will be food and drink as is customary for our meetings. So bring yourself and a healthy appetite!

[ Some people just like learning about it and that’s fine too. ] So I-I’ll be in touch and you can always contact me via the journals if you wish to speak in private! Thank you for your time and f-for listening. I’ll be out at the lake for a little while longer, so there’s no need to rush.

[ It helps him think out here, the peace and quiet and solitude of it all. So many things have happened recently especially at house 44. Yunna leaving this morning is the main thing in particular and Valentine’s Day was still lingering in his mind as well. He just needs a momentary break from it to clear his head. ] ]

Ah! Yes. It's been a work in progress for a while. I-I initial had the idea from that one draft we were on. Since then I've been trying to replicate that same mechanism. But the amount of magic it'll take to keep it afloat is probably tremendous. Not to mention that only people who can use magic would be able to pilot it.

If that's so... then it sounds like it'll require a crew to enchant it, rather than one person. [Devil Fruits aren't magic, and the only experience Law has with the art is through that form of Shifting, Filial magic. So perhaps he's wrong to think a group of weaker casters might make up for an ungodly strong one.] If the magic you're thinking of works like that.

Will it have air balloons to help with the lift like the Third Party ships?

[Rei gives him a teasing half smile]

And while I think trying to spar might be fun, I'm not sure you've taught me enough to compete. But I could always cheat and surprise you.

[ Helios will respond with a similar smile, though his is more sheepish than anything. ] Of course. How could I not know that?

But, ah cheating isn't good, Rei. [ Tsk tsk. You should know better. ] Just remember that it can go both ways, you know. [ Now it's his turn to give a teasing smile. ]

What sort of things do you guys do? [She's never been in a club before, so she's not entirely sure how one works.]

Oh yes! We're a bit small but that never stopped anyone! I think it'll be nice to get some new members at least. [ He smiles back at Karis. ]

Mostly we just, ah, discuss any sort of projects or ideas we want to start.

Like the flying ship thing? [She would of called it something else entirely different, that is, if she knew what sort of flying ship he was referring to.]

Sorry, that's a no on the magic spar. This might actually just be an attempt to get you back here working again. If you're not too busy, I mean, and you do sound kinda busy.

Perhaps if you beat me I can help out a little more at the tea shop. [ He is totally teasing, or is he?! ]

Ah, but, it's not too terribly busy. I-I've just been doing little things here and there. [ The cafe is the most important thing for right now. ] It seems like the days just aren't long enough to get a lot done, you know?

[Xellos smiles to himself as he teleports himself over to the area. He takes a high vantage point to best locate the man, carefully scanning the land before pinpointing his location and teleporting right beside him]

[ Good lord that makes Helios practically jump out of his skin. He'll startle a little at the sudden intrusion of a voice very clearly next to him. Xellos please, you're going to give this man a heart attack before the sparring can even begin. ]

Oh! Good lord! I-I mean. Ah. H-Hello. [ He'll laugh sheepishly. ] Are you here from the, um, announcement?

What kind of spells do you know?

[Here, Helios. Here's a kid who looks no more than eight years old.]

[ Helios smiles back. It's always good to start young, yes, and Helios was probably around Phibrizzo's age when he first started magic lessons. He's not entirely surprised to see the young boy address him over the journals. ]

Oh, Well. I know mainly elemental based spells. Fire balls, lightning bolts, ice spears, things of that nature really. And yourself?

[The difference in time between posting and Cliff's perusal of his journal had allowed for some of his own initial questions to be answered. And, although he wasn't skilled with magic of any sort to any degree, he had a hunch that some practical engineering might be beneficial to someone with questions about a flying ship...]

Say, you still to talk about that ship of your's?

[ Despite it coming later in the week Helios will definitely answer that question with quickness. He's spoken to Cliff a few times before, but they weren't terribly close. It surprises him somewhat to hear the other man asking over the journals. ]

Oh! Yes. Yes I am. Nothing has been hashed out quite yet, but I'm always willing to talk about it.

( action ) hope this is ok!

[ The sounds attract a wanderer through the forest who just looking and checking out the area for anything odd or unseen (which for him is still a lot). The sounds of magic aren't entirely unfamiliar to the boy's ears - they sound like battle and pokémon. And hey, even if they didn't, they were clearly odd and strange, and enough of a reason to go finding out the source from whichever way he had been intentionally heading.

He pauses when he sees the man, next to a tree, just because he notices him go to the journal to talk, and he doesn't want to interrupt him. But when he's done... ]

Hey! [ From the trees he comes, a creature by his feet should the yellow of its fur catch Helios's attention at all. It's rather small though, only about a foot tall. The boy goes to where the disfigured clay dolls are, observing each one with an excited look on his face. ] Hi! Was that magic?

[ And then he'll look to Helios himself. Ten year old (nearly eleven!!) boy here. ]

[ After his brief announcement he's greeted by a young boy whom Helios has never seen before. The pokemon by his side makes Helios' mouth turn up in a broad smile though. He was accustomed to seeing them, after having met a few different trainers here. ]

Yes it was. And that's a pokemon with you, correct? [ He'll bend down onto one knee and offer up some his snacks for Pikachu to nibble on, should the pokemon feel like it. ] I've seen a good few people with them around here.

[Voice]

Oh, I'll spar with you, Helios.

[That would totally go well, right?]

[ Grune please! Helios is just...gonna laugh, sheepishly. ] Really? Ah. You'd want to actually spar with me, Grune?

[ He's not sure how comfortable he is with this. ]

... did you say a flying ship?

[Sorry, that was the only part that really caught Jack's attention. Sparring isn't really his sort of thing at all.]

Ah, yes, I did! It's something of an ongoing project. It's going to take awhile before it gets up off the ground so to speak. [ Helios stahp with the puns. ]

I do wonder if the Malnosso will even allow something like to exist in the enclosure, now that I think about it.

[ Kakashi's face is familiar if only in passing. Helios recognizes him from the alliance announcement he made some time ago. ] Well it was started by a good friend of mine, Harry Dresden. I've just taken up root as the leader or-or head of it since his returning back home. He...left it to me to keep it running so I'm trying my hardest to do so.
