folklorist | ϡ - Chapter FiftyTwo; Let's talk about magic [action|voice]

[ Today Helios can be found in his usual haunts. He’ll take a day off from the library to practice his magic in the afternoon after school. Anyone near the edge of town of by the lake will hear and see crackles of thunder, loud bangs of fire and flashes of light erupting along the coastline of the lake itself. It’s out of the way enough that it won’t affect anyone but people can still see it from the edge of town. There’s a few targets made of clay, dirt, and mud all around the area should anyone actually venture out to see what’s going on. Each clay figure is sporting different elementally inflicted wounds. Helios himself has a worked up a good sweat at least and he’ll wipe his brow free before going to his journal. He’ll be standing in the middle of it all with a satisfied look on his face. ]

I was wondering if anyone would like to have a spar. Ah, well, a magical one that is. I-I’ve been neglecting my duties to practice for a while now, and since the weather is nice today I thought it’d be good to get some practice in. [ The Battle Dome scares him, okay? Otherwise he would have used that to train but…how does he technology? ] I’m by the lake if anyone would like to join me for a few one on one sessions. [ And here he’ll pause for a moment before continuing to talk. ]

But beside that. There’s a magic club here that I-I’ve also been neglecting, which is unfair to the members who joined it some time ago. I was wondering if anyone would like to meet, perhaps this Saturday by the beach. I’ve been meaning to get some ideas and thoughts about a certain flying ship, but I haven’t actually made much progress on my own. I-I’d really love to chat and speak with you all again, new arrivals are welcome to stop by as well. It’s pretty much open to everyone, really, there’s no limitations even if you’re not a magic user yourself. There will be food and drink as is customary for our meetings. So bring yourself and a healthy appetite!

[ Some people just like learning about it and that’s fine too. ] So I-I’ll be in touch and you can always contact me via the journals if you wish to speak in private! Thank you for your time and f-for listening. I’ll be out at the lake for a little while longer, so there’s no need to rush.

[ It helps him think out here, the peace and quiet and solitude of it all. So many things have happened recently especially at house 44. Yunna leaving this morning is the main thing in particular and Valentine’s Day was still lingering in his mind as well. He just needs a momentary break from it to clear his head. ] ]

[ Good lord that makes Helios practically jump out of his skin. He'll startle a little at the sudden intrusion of a voice very clearly next to him. Xellos please, you're going to give this man a heart attack before the sparring can even begin. ]

Oh! Good lord! I-I mean. Ah. H-Hello. [ He'll laugh sheepishly. ] Are you here from the, um, announcement?

[You either go startling or creepily as a Mazoku for a general rule]

I am indeed. I'm new, and interested in what sorts of magic are available here.

[Also to determine whether said magics are a threat and a plan to neutralize them needs to be made]

[ Helios wants none of that kthnx. Helios gives the other a shaky smile. ]

Well there's the filial spirits for one. They're the, um, indigenous holders of magic for this planet apparently. But there's also everyone else here who shares their own magic at times. [ Helios is a bit more open towards teaching people than most. ]

Is there a specific kind you're interested in?

The filial does have some interest, though from my understanding it would be inferior in regards to the magic from my world.

Your magic would also be of interest. You mentioned a magic duel, yes?

It's not too terribly strong, I admit, but it does help power those spells that have been cut down in power due to the power cap here.

Really? Well I'm not opposed to trading spells or teaching my own. [ Helios quirks a brow. ] But, ah, yes. I did! Would you be interested in having one then?

Oh, well I do have a few spells which I thought would be useful to teach to the general population here. Doing a bit of research to see if people can handle them though.

[More so if they are capable of it, after that they can wreak as much chaos as they want with it]

Certainly, it would be good to see how much the power cap has affected my abilities. Any particular rules you would like to set out? No physical attacks or some such?

Is there any specific criteria that your magic requires? I know some people's worlds are rather specific sometimes in who can use what. [ Like that one place that only females could learn the magic. ]

Ah. Yes that would be good. And-and of course no life threatening spells either. [ Helios would rather not die again, thanks. ] Simple things, you know nothing too over the top. It's definitely not to the death after all.

[ He laughs sheepishly as he says that. ]

Its more a matter of magical capacity. There are the words of incantation which anyone can say, but just because they can say it doesn't mean they will have the magical ability.

[He smiles cheerfully]

Nothing physical or lethal, quite doable.

Very true. There's similar spells in my world like that. Ones that mythologies and legendary beings wield but for a normal human they're potentially dangerous to use because of how taxing they can be on the body.

[ Helios replies in kind with his own smile, albeit it's a bit more shaky. ]

Wouldn't want anyone to get to terribly hurt after all. [ That wasn't the point of this exercise. ]

[Legendary beings indeed]

Oh I'm sure I'll be fine regardless.

[Xellos was fully confident in this regard. As to Helios, well he'd make sure he was still functioning]

Ah, well, I'm sure you will be. I-I'm not much of a fighter myself. [ Not since recently, due to Luceti's circumstances. ]

Shall we begin then?

Well, I think first exchanging names is at least customary, wouldn't you say?
