ϡ - Chapter FiftyTwo; Let's talk about magic [action|voice]

[ Today Helios can be found in his usual haunts. He’ll take a day off from the library to practice his magic in the afternoon after school. Anyone near the edge of town of by the lake will hear and see crackles of thunder, loud bangs of fire and flashes of light erupting along the coastline of the lake itself. It’s out of the way enough that it won’t affect anyone but people can still see it from the edge of town. There’s a few targets made of clay, dirt, and mud all around the area should anyone actually venture out to see what’s going on. Each clay figure is sporting different elementally inflicted wounds. Helios himself has a worked up a good sweat at least and he’ll wipe his brow free before going to his journal. He’ll be standing in the middle of it all with a satisfied look on his face. ]

I was wondering if anyone would like to have a spar. Ah, well, a magical one that is. I-I’ve been neglecting my duties to practice for a while now, and since the weather is nice today I thought it’d be good to get some practice in. [ The Battle Dome scares him, okay? Otherwise he would have used that to train but…how does he technology? ] I’m by the lake if anyone would like to join me for a few one on one sessions. [ And here he’ll pause for a moment before continuing to talk. ]

But beside that. There’s a magic club here that I-I’ve also been neglecting, which is unfair to the members who joined it some time ago. I was wondering if anyone would like to meet, perhaps this Saturday by the beach. I’ve been meaning to get some ideas and thoughts about a certain flying ship, but I haven’t actually made much progress on my own. I-I’d really love to chat and speak with you all again, new arrivals are welcome to stop by as well. It’s pretty much open to everyone, really, there’s no limitations even if you’re not a magic user yourself. There will be food and drink as is customary for our meetings. So bring yourself and a healthy appetite!

[ Some people just like learning about it and that’s fine too. ] So I-I’ll be in touch and you can always contact me via the journals if you wish to speak in private! Thank you for your time and f-for listening. I’ll be out at the lake for a little while longer, so there’s no need to rush.

[ It helps him think out here, the peace and quiet and solitude of it all. So many things have happened recently especially at house 44. Yunna leaving this morning is the main thing in particular and Valentine’s Day was still lingering in his mind as well. He just needs a momentary break from it to clear his head. ] ]

Ley lines are basically interconnected networks of magically infused sites of tremendous power. They're often found in places such as megaliths, monuments or sites where magic had a large impact. In my world they're rather powerful and there's many different networks across the entire planet. The lines themselves are like a spider's web in that they branch out from focal points, or foci as they're termed. Foci can range from a mile wide to over a hundred miles wide, depending of the, ah, source. [ His castle is built on a foci actually a small one only a couple of miles but it's still powerful. ]

As for the wings, yes, I think something like that would leave a good impression. Bird wings not-not actual plane wings.

So in essence they act like a little like nerves in the nervous system. But instead of transmitting electrical impulses, they conduct magical energy between foci, right? [Or maybe blood vessels in the circulatory system is a better analogy.]

Huh... [Uhhhh... if you say so. Still trying to figure how that would actually look and work.

Still drawing a blank. Any mental image that comes looks rather silly.] The only concern I'd have with that is what if the magic was suddenly cut off mid flight. I'd think the boat would need something that didn't rely on magic to be able to keep it up in that case, or at least slow its descent down.

Yes! That's exactly right. [ And that is a good point. Helios will run a hand through his hair as he thinks on that. ]

Perhaps having emergence backup parachutes or balloons would be a good idea. For the ship as well as the passengers. I don't think anything like that will happen but-but the anti-shift technology that cuts off all power is a cause for concern.

[ It would be very bad if something were to happen mid-flight. ]

[Very bad. Long way down.]

... It's always that what if, isn't it? I don't think anything like that will happen either, but it's good to be prepared.

Oh yes you're absolutely right. Having a safety measure in place is always needed for these types of vessels anyway. [ Helios totally didn't overlook it, nope. ]

[deathsdoctor]

[Nope, nope.]

Any kind of vessel when you get down to it. If you do ever get it off the ground, no pun intended, I'd like to come see. Ships are the lifeblood of where I come from, but we have don't exactly have flying ones there.

[He just hasn't seen what Admiral Fujitora can do. Seeing a flying ship is square in his future.]

Well I hope you do get to see it. I'd be very pleased if this idea came to fruition and I'm sure the enclosure could benefit from it in at least some way!

[ Helios is kinda excited for something like this to actually happen. ]

Well... the teleporters only go certain points, and this would allow us to transport a good amount of cargo and the like across the enclosure to any point quickly at the very least.

So, yes, indeed we could benefit a great deal from something like this.
