folklorist | ϡ - Chapter FiftyTwo; Let's talk about magic [action|voice]

[ Today Helios can be found in his usual haunts. He’ll take a day off from the library to practice his magic in the afternoon after school. Anyone near the edge of town of by the lake will hear and see crackles of thunder, loud bangs of fire and flashes of light erupting along the coastline of the lake itself. It’s out of the way enough that it won’t affect anyone but people can still see it from the edge of town. There’s a few targets made of clay, dirt, and mud all around the area should anyone actually venture out to see what’s going on. Each clay figure is sporting different elementally inflicted wounds. Helios himself has a worked up a good sweat at least and he’ll wipe his brow free before going to his journal. He’ll be standing in the middle of it all with a satisfied look on his face. ]

I was wondering if anyone would like to have a spar. Ah, well, a magical one that is. I-I’ve been neglecting my duties to practice for a while now, and since the weather is nice today I thought it’d be good to get some practice in. [ The Battle Dome scares him, okay? Otherwise he would have used that to train but…how does he technology? ] I’m by the lake if anyone would like to join me for a few one on one sessions. [ And here he’ll pause for a moment before continuing to talk. ]

But beside that. There’s a magic club here that I-I’ve also been neglecting, which is unfair to the members who joined it some time ago. I was wondering if anyone would like to meet, perhaps this Saturday by the beach. I’ve been meaning to get some ideas and thoughts about a certain flying ship, but I haven’t actually made much progress on my own. I-I’d really love to chat and speak with you all again, new arrivals are welcome to stop by as well. It’s pretty much open to everyone, really, there’s no limitations even if you’re not a magic user yourself. There will be food and drink as is customary for our meetings. So bring yourself and a healthy appetite!

[ Some people just like learning about it and that’s fine too. ] So I-I’ll be in touch and you can always contact me via the journals if you wish to speak in private! Thank you for your time and f-for listening. I’ll be out at the lake for a little while longer, so there’s no need to rush.

[ It helps him think out here, the peace and quiet and solitude of it all. So many things have happened recently especially at house 44. Yunna leaving this morning is the main thing in particular and Valentine’s Day was still lingering in his mind as well. He just needs a momentary break from it to clear his head. ] ]

[ Helios will respond with a similar smile, though his is more sheepish than anything. ] Of course. How could I not know that?

But, ah cheating isn't good, Rei. [ Tsk tsk. You should know better. ] Just remember that it can go both ways, you know. [ Now it's his turn to give a teasing smile. ]

Well, that's true.

[She can't help but laugh.]

I think I've gotten the hang of teleportation now, though.

Have you? Oh that's wonderful Rei! You'll have to show me sometime then! [ Helios is proud of you Rei and it shows in his expression and voice. ]

We should try enchanting objects next. I-I think if you've gotten teleporting down we could try something a bit harder, hm?

Where are you? I'll show you right now.

[She's also proud of herself, too. It's taken almost two years to manage, but...she's gotten it!]

And...I've done a little bit of enchanting. It's come a bit easier. At least, if I want to make things heat up.

I'm out by the western lake. I'd be delighted to see! But do take your time, I'll be out here for a while.

[ Helios is proud of her hard work as well. He knows how hard that sigil is to master, let alone learn by someone unaccustomed to his world's magic, so he's very proud of Rei and her progress. ]

Hm. Well starting with the basics is a step in the right direction!

No time like the present.

[And in the work of a few moments, she appears out by the lake, smiling.]

[ Helios was about to reply but he knew the workings of that sigil so he'll give a look around the lake before smiling as he sees Rei. He'll rush over with an identical smile on his face. ]

No time like the present, indeed. That was fantastic Rei!

[Seeing him smiling at her is really wonderful, so wonderful the she grabs him into a hug.]

Thank you! It...only took me two years to really get right for a distance like this, but I think I have it down!

It's very impress given the amount of time you had to learn it. I'm proud of you Rei, truly. It's ah a not a sigil that's easily mastered so-so I think you've done rather well in those regards. [ And he is very happy and proud to know that Rei has made it this far. ]

We should celebrate with something, even if it's simple! It'll be my treat.

Well, thank you.

[She smiles wryly]

And, since everything around here is free, you know that your treat doesn't mean much, right?

W-Well that's true. But it can be something special still, can't it? [ He knows it doesn't take much to get what you want here, but Helios can try! ]

Well of course. Definitely. What did you have in mind?

[ Helios hums a little to himself as he thinks on an appropriate celebratory gift. ] Oh! How about I make you a delicious molten chili chocolate lava cake filled with aztec chocolate. I do know you like things a bit spicy. What do you say?

[ How can you resist a cake from Helios? You can't. ]

[She answers immediately.] That would be perfect. Especially since my birthday is soon.

[ Helios' smile only widens more. ] Wonderful! I'm glad you approve. I'll need to get you something for your birthday too.

[ He is gonna ponder on that one though. ]

Oh, no, you don't need to worry about that.

[Except maybe you do...]

Of course I do! It's your birthday after all. What sort of person would I be if I didn't get you something nice.

[She huffs a breath.]

You know, most people don't bother. So I'd say you're pretty normal. But I certainly won't say no.

[ Helios waves off the huff with a laugh of his own. ] Yes, yes, but I'm not most people now am I?

[ He smiles sneakily. ] So then it's settled.

Yes, I suppose so. Thank you, papa. I'm sure you'll find something I'll treasure forever.

[And she means that.]

I'm sure something will come to mind. [ and now he really feels the pressure because he doesn't want to give Rei just anything. ] There's an assortment of things that tend to crop up in the shops, so.

I suspect you won't have any problems...
