This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Helios anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

[Don draws the filter pattern, then stares blankly at it for a long minute, not saying anything.]

[Focus, Donatello.]

[He gathers himself and speaks.]

Helios...? Robert told me you had a pretty rough re-entry.

[ He's almost caught off guard a slight jump at the other's voice over the journal. There's some shuffling as he puts aside a current project to address the other over the journal. ]

Donatello? It's nice to hear from you! [ Oh dear...that. ] Ah...well yes it was. Oh but I'm perfectly fine now actually! Feeling loads better than I was.

[i_speak_softly]

[He sounds genuinely happy to hear it.] I'm glad. And your magic came back? [He's asking not just from self-interest but because he can imagine it would be pretty distressing for a wizard to be magic-less.]

[folklorist]

Yes thankfully. It...it was very odd not having it. Or I should say having it but not being able to use it! [ Very odd indeed but that's the Malnosso for you. ] Like a very nice looking cake in the display window that's not for sale.

[ Pouting on his end thinking about it. Only Helios would attribute cake to magic. ]

I know what you mean... [His own ability to use his technological expertise and tinkering skills has been seriously limited in Luceti.]

Could I offer you an excuse to... eat some cake, as it were?

[folklorist]

Oh? [ Are you bribing him Donatello? ]

I never mind that excuse at all!

[He'll get straight to the point, then.]

I could use another of your wonderful barriers.

[folklorist]

Another barrier, hm? For what if you don't mind me asking?

[i_speak_softly]

For my house. [He hesitates before explaining.] An enemy from our world arrived here in the last cycle. We'd all feel a lot better knowing she can't invite herself to dinner.

[folklorist]

[ Eyes widen at the explanation. ] Oh dear that is a bit of a problem. I don't mind at all--ah, well, I wouldn't have minded anyway!

I'd be glad to help you and your family. Barriers are never a problem, quite easy.

[i_speak_softly]

Thanks, Helios. [He sounds relieved at your willingness.] Ah... can I put my father on? He wanted to talk to you...

[folklorist]

No need for that Donatello. I'm glad you decided to come to me of all people. [ and he truly is. ]

Your father? Oh! Yes, yes that's fine. Would he rather we meet in person? I am going to have to come over anyway after all.

[i_speak_softly]

Oh, that reminds me - did you try your experiment with the tuning forks?

Ah... hold on. [Muffled:] Master Splinter? Did you want to talk to Helios over the journals, or do you want him to just come over?

[folklorist]

We have been giving them a test run, yes. I didn't get to properly thank you--so thank you very much for that Donatello. They've been very helpful with the sound cancellation spell.

[ A hum of acknowledgment as Helios will wait on his end then for a reply from either Splinter or Donatello. ]

[ninjacane]

It would be best if he were to come to our home....

[Splinter is suddenly confronted with a journal.

Donatello, is this thing on...?

It's on, Sensei. [He passes the journal to Splinter, once again forgetting how inept the ninja master is with anything that resembles technology.] This is Helios ... [Um.] ... Sprensonne. He's a wizard and he runs his own school.

[folklorist]

Ah it's a pleasure to meet you, Splinter. I hear you're in need of a barrier. I can certainly put one up shortly if you'd allow me to stop by.

[ninjacane]

[He already knows where their home is, most likely, explaining why Splinter isn't against him coming over. Splinter would much rather be suspicious of people in person. He didn't like the way he came across the journals. There was so much missed in body language... and scent.]

Perhaps you could explain more about-- [He accidentally stops the recording of voice with his thumb without realizing.] --this barrier?

Master Splinter, I think you turned off the -- [He reaches over and hits the ON button.] -- voice function. Helios, are you still there?

[folklorist]

Oh! Yes of course I am. [ Helios sounds a bit amused because he's made the same mistakes before. Not everyone can be good with technology it seems. ]

I see. Thank you, Donatello.

[Splinter clears his throat.]

I wish to know more about this barrier.

Yes I'd be glad to tell you more. It's easier to see in practice but...

Basically the spell works so that only the people written on a certain list that you make can enter it. Of course there are exceptions to the rule and such. It keeps out those whom you don't want inside it. People on the list have a certain symbol which allows them passage whereas those whom you don't want entering have another.

A symbol? And what sort of exceptions are there to the list?

[folklorist]

Yes usually one that matches the symbol to construct the barrier. The symbol used to keep someone out is the opposite of that--hence the effectiveness.

Exceptions...well those who can break it usually. Though it requires a very powerful magic users or ah... [ A pause. ] injury to the one who made it. It's not as strong as it could be without the persons who you want in or out writing their own names. Though I suppose the former is probably impossible or difficult to get in most cases. Still it's very effective and I can guarantee it'll work!

[Splinter considers all of this quietly.]

Then the book will be hidden away from any and all guests. [A pause] Would there be any indication of the barrier's failure if you were to become injured?
