ϡ - chapter thirteen; rememberance [action|written]

[ Around mid-afternoon Helios will be making his way across town with a small bundle of flowers in his hands. It might seem a bit odd, random even, but today is a rather...hard day for him; regardless he does have a small smile on his face as he makes his way through town. There's soft hum coming from his lips, absentmindedly and almost indistinguishably if you're not close enough. It's a soft melody and peaceful, or as peaceful as he can manage it to be. He has his journal with him just in case anything goes wrong.

He pauses momentarily at the edge of town, looking back almost as if he's thinking of making a post but...he decides against it for now. And then he turns and heads off into the forest.

He'll return later with one lone flower still in between his fingers and some dirt on both pant legs and his hands. He takes a seat by the fountain in the town square idly looking at his journal and of course the flower he is twirling unmindful with his pointer finger and thumb of his left hand. ]

If you could go back and change one event in your life, would you? Or would leave it as a reminder or perhaps a lesson learned? History is known for teaching us our past mistakes and also to be used in helping us in the future as well. History repeats itself as the saying goes.

[ Helios will naturally jump at the sound of the someone's voice breaking his silent musings. He's a bit jumpy today it seems. But he will look up and smile. ]

Ah Frederic good afternoon.

[Frederic sits down beside Helios and looks a little puzzled, but he knew Helios would tell him if anything is wrong.]

Are you quite all right? You seem a little different today.

[ Just idly tinkering with that flower. ] Hm? Oh! Oh yes I'm all right. Nothing to worry about. [ He laughs. ] I just...have a lot on my mind today is all.

[Frederic wants to reach out and put a hand on Helios' shoulder, but decides against it and simply admires the flower in Helios' hand.]

Helios, you know you can tell me anything that's troubling you. I told you this the last time I was here, didn't I? You shouldn't hold all of your burdens and worries inside.

[ He hunches his shoulders a bit at those words spoken. But he knows he can definately trust the other. ]

Yes, I remember. But...I--it's not something I should concern others over. [ He gives Frederic a small smile though. ]

[Frederic sighs and looks up towards the sky, he wants to comfort his friend more than anything else in the world right now.]

Why do you believe that? [He pauses for a moment, then remembers what he was originally here for.] I also happen to see what you wrote to everyone before coming here, I have my answer for you.

Ah-well...I just, it's just I don't think anyone needs to bear such things in all honesty. I do appreciate it though, Frederic, really I do. [ He'll quirk a brow inquisitively at the other, listening and nodding. ] You do?

[Frederic turns his eyes back to Helios, a rather sad look appears in his eyes and on his face.]

There are many events I wish I could change and many of them you know of. Saving my sister Emilia from death, finding a way to never have gotten tuberculosis, or even save my friends from what I did during my journey in the dream world. [A pause, his voice grows softer.] But if I had changed any one of those events, I would have never been through what was given to me. My memories of my sister led me to the dream world as well as my tuberculosis, then what happened in the dream world led me to Luceti. I wouldn't change any of that, despite what my selfish heart wants me to do.

Frederic--you. Hm yes I understand but if you could have saved Emilia so that you could have been happy and she as well, you would have wouldn't you? Even if those memories helped you become stronger what's the difference if she was alive or not? Even if it might be selfish to only save her just so you could be happy.

Of course I would, but if I did save her, there would be no memories of her that would have created the dream world if she had stayed alive. That's what I believe either way, I do not know if it's true. Perhaps I would still have had the dream world based on her memories even if she had lived, I'll never know. All I know is if I had changed even one event, I would have never come to this place nor met anyone I have here.

[ His eyebrow raises at that. ] That's possible, I never thought about it that way. Anything could change our coming here and then I might not have met so many wonderful people.

Helios, is there a specific reason as to why you asked the type of question you did? I simply wish to know the reason as to why you did it.

[ He'll wince just a little. ] Oh no, not really. I was just curious to be honest. [ He's a horrible liar. ]

You're lying. I can tell not only by the look on your face, but by the tone of your voice.

[ And here he thought he was hiding it perfectly well. ] It's--It's nothing really! I was just thinking about something that's all. [ He'll give Frederic a small smile. ] Nothing to worry about.

[He sighs and looks at Helios with a face of slight concern.] Nothing to worry about hmm? Are you quite certain? It certainly looks as if you want to say something in regards to it.

[ He'll just not look at you when you ask that. His eyes wandering to that flower once more as he twirls it slowly admiring it. ] Ah-well. [ He pauses sighing before continuing. ] Today is just...a hard day. That's all but, she wouldn't want me to mourning so I'm not really. Just thinking if things had gone differently.

[He admires the flower in Helios' hand and sighs along with his friend.] She, Helios? Who is she?

[ Give him a few moments to work up the will to say it. This is the first time he's talked about her to anyone here after all. It's said so low it could almost be accounted for as a whisper. ] Elise.

[Frederic begins to ponder who exactly Elise is, but then he slowly comes to a conclusion.] Elise is someone very special to you, isn't she?

[ He'll only nod slowly looking down at that ground for a few seconds before replying his voice steady but still low. Another wistful sigh escapes his lips. ] Yes she is.

[His eyes follow Helios' movements and he simply sighs, this reminds him of all the times he'd be when people would try to get him to talk about Emilia.] So Elise is to you how Emilia is to me. I believe I understand now why it's so hard to talk about her, because she is so important to you and then you... [He won't continue that sentence, he doesn't want to upset his friend.]

Emilia you've mentioned her quite a bit before. [ He shoulder's hunch and then two fingers go to the bridge of his nose he proceeds to rub both eyes another sigh escaping him. ] And then--

I was so incredible foolish and selfish back then. She wouldn't want me to say that but it's true all of it is true.

Emilia was my sister and I lost her to an illness. If that is how you lost Elise, I can understand you very well.

[He pauses and seems rather sad.] All I want to be able to understand what you're going through and to help comfort you in any way I can.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Frederic. It wasn't caused by that. If over eagerness and ignorance were illnesses then you would be right. But they're not, they're just faults! Faults that I--[ he takes a deep breath. ]...faults in me that I could have fixed.
