ϡ - Appointments Post

This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Helios anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

[Robert finds himself wishing that Helios had allowed the touch just a little longer, but he pushes that away.]

Perhaps in some ways it is, for many people. After all, I thought magic, gods, souls and the like were myths too, but they are just as real to you as true peace is to me... [As sad as that is.]

... And I expect your magic simply wouldn't work on Terra, altogether. Not that I can prove that directly, per se, but considering that you couldn't make your spell work when I drew the circle for it, I'd say that is a fairly accurate indication.

I wonder what other discrepancies might arise...

[Such as, y'know, that curse that Helios has that Robert doesn't know about at all.]

I sometimes wish peace was as simple to achieve as it sounds in your world. I know it's taken quite a long time to make it as far as it has in your world. Working towards peace makes it seem so hard though.

[ Helios looks surprised at that and then thoughtful. It was true what Robert said though, his spell hadn't worked at all and perhaps it did have something to do with Robert's worldly mechanics. ]

It does bring up a good few questions indeed. A place where magic doesn't work...hm.

I wish that it was easier to achieve peace in other worlds. No world should be violent and dangerous if it can help it. [Robert leans back a little, studying Helios' expression.]

... Were I to take evidence of Luceti physics home, it would revolutionize study in my world...

... To think that there are worlds out there where magic, or similar things, really do exist and work, and are for all intents and purposes just part of the physics of the universe... Well, it's quite amazing to contemplate.

... [Thoughtfully:] I wonder if all of that goes for chi and souls and the like, too...

It certainly is. So many possibilities with this shifting technology. You could do so many good things with it, were it used correctly. [ Some bitterness in that statement? You bet there is. ]

Souls and chi, hm? It might. I-I never considered the possibility of not having a soul. [Not having a soul would mean...no coldness, no pain, and no more absence of feeling that was once there when Elise was alive. ]

Indeed. Which I think is the single most bloody frustrating thing about it - it would be fantastic if employed sanely, but... it is not.

[Robert looks thoughtfully down at his fingers.] Well, I know that Mike can't see any chi from me. But I've never conclusively learned if I have a... physically-existing soul or not.

I would say that I do not, though. There has never been any evidence for that sort of thing, on Terra.

No it certainly is not. [ And he hates them for it sometimes. ]

You don't have...a soul? [ Helios' eyes widen at that prospect. He might look away from Robert and down at his own hands. No soul would mean no more pain, no more feeling of this horribly overbearing weight on his shoulders that threatens to consume him at times. It would mean no more cold skin, and the ability to lov-no he can't think like that. Helios will shake his head eyes closing for a few brief moments. Thoughtfully: ]

No soul...

Not as far as I would know... [Robert gnaws his lip gently at Helios' reaction. It seems, for all intents and purposes, negative to Robert, and he obviously doesn't know what that makes Helios feel about his own.

All he knows is that Helios looked away from him when he said that.]

I-Is that bad? I mean... it's nothing I can help, I don't think...

[A wary frown flicks across Robert's face. Don't go all Mike on him, Helios.]

Oh! Heaven's no, Robert! It's just...many cultures and beliefs generally view soulless things as being well...not normal I suppose. [ More like evil, or dead. ]

But that's not the point. The point is that your worldly mechanics differ from others and people will just have to acknowledge that. It might take some time, as does most coming to terms with things, but...I do wonder what it would feel like without one. It must feel very...freeing.

[ Helios will purse his lips not saying much after that. The silence will blanket the two of them until one of them decides to talk again. ]

[Helios won't have to wait long.

Robert raises an eyebrow a bit.]

... Freeing?

I have... never felt what it was like to have a soul, so it is simply the usual state of affairs... ... are they burdensome, then, in your world?

[Robert has no idea what kind of nerve he's hitting.]

Ah-well I didn't...that came out wrong. [ Because he's feeling guilt for even thinking that let alone saying it.

That does strike something in Helios and Robert can see by his all too blatant wince. ] N-No, not burdensome. Not at all it's just...the mechanics of things in my world make them-make them tricky t-to handle. [ To have in all honesty. ]

Oh? Is there any particular reason for that? [Robert's questioning is gentle; it isn't meant to hurt Helios, and though he sees that wince, he doesn't compute what it means.]

...

[Though, it does make him murmur awkwardly, after the pause:] B-But you don't need to answer this. Just... I'm curious. It is something outside of my... jurisdiction, so to speak.
