Th-There's a house, by the lake.

[There's definitely something wrong - Giles' breath is rattling in his chest as he takes a breath in.]

...do you know where it is?

[Giles waits. By now, the numbness has set in so badly that it's easier to hold the coat in place over the bite marks than to even consider shifting it.

When Helios arrives outside the house, he'll find Giles just inside the front door, leaning against the wall and pressing his jacket to his throat. A trail of blood leads from the front steps of the porch to where he is, and blood is smeared on the walls and floor around him, on top of soaking down his chest and coating the hand keeping the makeshift bandage in place.

His skin is pale and his eyes are closed and his breathing is faint, but he is still breathing.]

[Giles opens his eyes the tiniest fraction, the faint beginnings of alarm chasing the fog out of his mind when he feels his hand being moved away. And there's a second of resistance, a second of "who are you and what are you doing to me?". Fortunately, Giles focuses on Helios before he focuses on the cold.]

Helios?

[He swallows, painfully.] I'm... [What? Fine? Even Giles isn't going to lie that much.] ...alive. I'm alive.

Th-Thank you for coming.

[Some of the dizziness recedes when Giles' body realizes that it's no longer actively losing quite so much blood. Giles lets out his own sigh of relief when the world slides back into focus a little more, even if it means that he feels his own fear for Buffy's sake all the more keenly.]

Everything w-will be fine. [He's not sure who he's reassuring. Maybe them both. He laughs shakily as another thought strikes him.] I'm c-certainly not going to let another vampire f-finish me off. [And Helios can thank Buffy for the resurgence of the gallows humor. But it's always reassured Giles when things are bad more than anything else.

He opens his eyes a little further, enough to take in Helios' face instead of just Helios' shape, enough to seem a little more alive.]

Clinic. Y-Yes. Can, can you get us both there?

[Giles does notice the blood.]

Helios, you're...

[He almost apologizes again, because he forgot that this sort of magic requires blood in Helios' world. And he knows that he's grown to depend on Helios way too much for this sort of thing - that thought has never been more vivid in his mind than it is now.

But what good will apologizing do? He's already lost the blood. Giles just...closes his eyes and looks away and tries to answer.]

Vampire. One.

...I don't know.

[He obediently closes his eyes when Helios says to and tries to stay upright without actually holding on to him.

Unfortunately, the teleportation forces Giles even further out of his own equilibrium when he's already shaky at best. He barely has time to note the familiar ground outside the clinic before his stomach roils.

So he'll reflexively shove Helios away before dropping back to his hands and knees to be sick all over the ground.]

Yes, you should have.

[Giles' voice is almost a pained growl as he stares fixedly ahead towards the clinic. Shaking like a leaf, exhausted and weak and well past empty, he'll nevertheless attempt to get back to his feet under his own power.]

Walking...w-wasn't an option. N-Not now.

[And he makes it back to his feet, through raw determination and stubborness, although he's still swaying dangerously from the blood loss and the after effects of the teleportation. He looks over at Helios, making sure to meet his friend's gaze.]

Helios, I'm alive. [Unspoken but implied - "thanks to you."]

All that m-matters.

[Please laugh, Helios. Please don't freak out. It's something for Giles to focus on. It's something good.

He's bloody and pale and shaky, and Helios probably has more than his fair share of Giles' blood on him, by now. But they're at the clinic, he doesn't feel quite so much like he's actually dying, and Giles is absolutely
determined, with every fiber of his being, to be okay. So he just holds on to Helios for support and focuses on walking.]

Just...n-need some bandaging.

[Bed. Giles doesn't even try to fight it once he realizes that he's on a bed - he collapses down onto his back, pressing his hand over the wound again and staring up at the ceiling.]

Bandaging first.

...then I n-need you to send a message to Buffy, Helios. Let her know w-where I am, and that I'm all right.

[It does sting, but compared to the pain of having Derek tearing into his neck, it's a sting that Giles can easily ignore. He just lays very still as Helios works, mentally checking off the steps he's following.

He doesn't want to risk a blood transfusion, not when neither of them have any real medical training beyond first aid. If he can just sleep, his body should get to work on recovery...]

...give me your hand. [The one you sliced open, Helios.]

Precisely.

Give me your hand, Helios. [Don't you dare argue with him.]

[No, no he's not. Giles was rendered completely useless to Buffy by being bitten, and Helios has gone above and beyond tonight. He's going to reciprocate if it kills him.

By now, Giles is well adjusted to the fact that Helios is just colder than normal. Maybe one day he'll find a good opportunity to ask, but considering all of the points where it's come up in the past, there hasn't been one yet. Especially not now.

He takes Helios' injured hand in both of his. Then he takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and calls on the Filial healing spirit.

She answers that call more readily than she has since his return, taking most of the strain off of Giles in his efforts to close the cut. And close it does, after a couple of minutes. Without even a scar. The effort leaves Giles breathing more heavily and teetering on the edge of unconsciousness, but it's actually the most successful healing he's ever managed.]

[Yes, he does. He needs to rest badly. Nala did a lot of the work, but even opening his eyes is too much work right now.]

Th-The bandage will need changing in a f-few hours.

...can you check back then? [And rest until then?]
consultmybooks: (Lost)

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2011-04-18 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Helios.

[He makes a few token efforts to actually make himself comfortable on the bed, and those token efforts are enough to sap the rest of the energy from his body and make him fall into a heavy, hopefully healing sleep.]
