ϡ - Appointments Post

This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Helios anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

[Ginia smiles a little more, feeling encouraged. Even if it takes a few more days to properly hear Nala, at least the fact she can hear something is a comfort.]

/Thank you. Do you mind if I ask what your first time using magic was like?/

[ That question makes Helios pause before smiling. As if the memory it brings on is one that he can fully remember, fully enjoy and love. ]

Ah, my first time? It was...surprising and somewhat exhilarating. My mother and father always told me I had the ability to preform magic. They didn't keep our roots a secret, not at all. But it's different when you actually, well, preform it. Theory and practice you know? Two entirely different things. But even now when I hold out my hand-- [ and he will preform the action. ] --and make a fireball or preform any other spell-- [ a bright orange orb of gently undulating and controlled flames spring to life in his palm. Helios' eyes glow a brighter green than they usually are too. He smiles looking at that orb. ] --it always reminds me of that day.

[Ginia listens to him, understanding quite well when he mentions the difference between theory and practice. Much more mundane than magic, but it brought back memories of her father teaching her how to be a bartender, making sure she had the major recipes memorized and giving her colored water to practice with before letting her handle the actual bottles of alcohol.

When he conjured the fireball, her face lit up in excited delight, leaning in a little closer to see, though much to her credit, she didn't try to poke it with anything like she had with Giles' tabletop twister.]

/That sounds amazing. I bet your parents were very proud of you./

[ Helios' palm closes around the ball of fire the flame dispersing with a small 'pop' and a little trail of black smoke as he does so. Helios nods and looks back at Ginia. ]

Yes they were very proud. I think I did well for my first time. I was only around seven or eight at the time.

[Ginia thinks on what she did around age seven/eight.

Learning the piano. Ballet lessons. Discovering the joy of word searches.]

/You were learning magic around seven or eight./

Well the incantations at least! The simple theory, you know? Our powers were still a bit too unstable to really do much with them. [ He'll tap his head with an index finger, smirking. ]

Magic has just as much to do with the mind as the body. Being as young as we were we probably could produce magical spells, like fireballs and the like, but they'd probably be out of control, very dangerous. We did get to make a simple flame though.

/Mental maturity and all that, got it. I could imagine the dangers of children playing with fire spells, even supervised. Though "we"? Do you have siblings?/

[ Helios nods. ] Yes it would have been rather bad. Though I believe bad in an understatement, really.

[ Oh. That, that is terribly sore spot for him Ginia. Sibling, yes. He'll try not to look too uncomfortable as he looks at the surrounding flora. ]

Y-Yes. Um, just, just a brother. [ And lets veer the topic away from his own family. ] Do you have any siblings?

[Oh. Oh. Unintentional sore subject. Ginia makes a mental note not to bring up that topic again.

Though ironically enough, it's not her favorite subject either.]

/I have two older siblings, a brother and a sister. Twins./

[ Yes it definitely is. But it's not like Ginia knows so Helios can't blame her for asking. ]

Ah, that's nice. I do wonder what it might have been like having a sister though.

/It varies. Since I was the youngest and a girl, my older sister always dragged me off as her model for any clothes she was designing. But between our brother and her, he was always the protective older brother who glared at any guys she might be seeing and they argued like no other. I suppose it all varies./

[There's a small smile as her expression becomes nostalgic. They fought like no other when it came down to it, but such was the way with siblings and she wouldn't have traded them for anything in the world.]

[ Helios smiles at the thought. ] They sound rather nice. If not a bit taxing, I'm sure. But most siblings are like that, aren't they? And yet you wouldn't give up your time or past experiences with them for the world.

[ Helios' gaze might look distant. As if he's struggling with his own thoughts on the things he said. To want someone else as your brother...he was horrible, wasn't he? ]

/They were a good six years older than me so when they wanted to drag me around, I didn't have much of a choice. But it was okay. They were my siblings. I'd give a lot to have them back./

[ To...have them back? Oh dear. ] I'm sorry, Ginia. I didn't mean to press the issue further. I apologize.

[Oh hell. Realizing she's said too much, Ginia puts on a smile and tries to backpedal a little.] /Oh, no, you didn't. It's just things change, people move. We live all over the place now so it's hard seeing them and we don't keep in touch as much as we used to. I'd give a lot to have them back as it used to be, but that's life. Things change./
