folklorist | ϡ - Chapter Six; the horned serpent [voice]

Raining, hm? [ There's the sound of rain pattering against the window, dulling the intermediate silence. He's thinking for a few brief moments getting his facts and thoughts sorted before beginning. ]

The Horned Serpent. A mythical being involved with rain, lightning or thunder. Some claimed it to be invisible while most referred to it as the bearer of rain that made noises similar to thunder. Taken from Native American tribes the Sioux believed the Unktehila to be a dangerous reptilian water monster that lived long ago. They were of various shapes and sizes. In the end however it is said that the Thunderbirds destroyed them, except for small species like snakes and lizards. It has varying names: Pita-skog, Sinti lapitta, Misi-kinepikw. Ah they're wonderful creatures, really. Not as extincted as everyone once believed; not as dangerous either I'll admit. The rain is so refreshing at times too.

Is there a being associated with the rain or water in anyone else's world? Since there's not much to do on rainy days, perhaps a little idle chatter could pass the time? [ Another pause, derp. ]

Oh! I almost forgot! Welcome to Luceti everyone! I know there's been quite a few new people about! The cycle just ended, I think? This place is so welcoming, isn't it? I'm sure you'll all feel right at home, or as much as possible in such a place! Though, it takes some getting used to doesn't it? A shame it's such a rainy day...there's so much to be explored in this place.

I don't think so? Then again, I haven't really heard much about those gods.

Hm. Well there's quite a lot. Since there's so many religions. But perhaps the older ones first. Zeus, Athena, Apollo. They're gods that represent things, like the sun, earth, moon, warfare, death, life. But, ah, they're not widely talked about anymore. Polytheistic religions aren't really practiced in my world as they used to be.

Sounds like home! 'Cept polytheism is pretty much the only widespread religion there is.

Home? Ah your world has multiple gods then. I don't why people stopped believing in many gods and turned to monotheism. I suppose as time went on and as people became more adaptive there really wasn't a need for a god of farming, war, or even love. But, still, it is interesting to learn about them and speak with them as well.

Been multiple gods since the beginning of time. But man, it's...hard to imagine humans worshiping only one god. Most people average at about two or three, but that depends on the culture and community.

It is a bit odd, isn't it? Especially if your world is as you say. I guess people just get used to it. I vaguely wonder sometimes what it would be like had people not turned to monotheism.

There are still some religions out there that worship multiple gods, though! They all seem to do just fine, too.

Good to know. But I'm still hoping humanity doesn't end up changing its mind, because then shit's going to go down with the rest of us.

Ah, well, humans have their ways of surprising even the gods. Maybe they just need someone to show them that gods need them, and believe in them, just as much as they believe and need gods.

Oh, there's a good few of us running about here! It's somewhat part of daily living, for me at least. Ah but the stories, history and the beings themselves are so fascinating; it's hard to pull oneself away once you've had a taste of it.

Isn't it? Though I sometimes wander if people knew...certain things about some of the gods back home, whether we'd lose believers or not.

Oh I'm sure your believers would follow you through and through. You seem quite amicable, well, for a god of war anyway! The others I've met always seemed to be grumpy when I spoke with them...perhaps it was just me, though.

Haha! The thing with humans though is that if we don't really fit their image of what they think we are, it...tends to weird them out. Contrary to popular opinion, seeing is not always believing.

We are a bit stubborn I'll admit and we never were too keen on changes, especially ones like that. It must put loads of pressure one you.

Not really. Back home, most people aren't even aware of who I am from just talking to me, and we don't usually tell either.
