ϡ - Chapter FortyThree; The third year anniversary (forward dated to the afternoon) [action|video]

[ The video feed turns on to a rather chubby little dragon wagging its tail happily as it watches a man, Helios to be more exact, standing over a glowing circle. He’s in his boom shack today, practicing a rather hard enchantment and so far it’s going well. The air in the shack is cold and the heat from the burning candles gives it an eerie fog like affect that is ever present in the video feed. Helios himself is standing at one point of the circle, eyes closed, as he mutters something under his breath. It’s an old and ancient language that not many people in his world know; runic old and ancient magicians used to use this language and then translated it into latin to make it easier to learn from. The lighting in the shack changes then, as the line of the circle turns from red to blue to purple and then green. Each color illuminating the foggy shack by the second as they constantly cycle through one another as Helios’ pitch and tone gets a bit louder and clearer. And then there is a crackling noise of energy as if stray bolts of lightning are trapped within the circle’s walls and then fizzle and flash in the video’s transmission. It’s all over with a bright flash of light and a shrill little chirp from Luminair, before the transmission goes back to normal with a sparkling smoke. It drifts lazily about the camera before Helios can be seen smiling broadly as he picks up the efforts of his work. A single solitary silver ring, now etched and engraved with magical symbols, it also holds a green emerald at its center. Helios for the record looks a bit tired as he comes over and scoops up one little dragon and said journal. It’s only then that he realizes it’s on. His green eyes widen in mild surprise but he just laughs and shakes his head. ]

Luminair you spoiled the surprise. Ah, well, I suppose it’s a good time as any to talk about it. If-if anyone was watching I recently m-made myself another ring. A, um, mirage ring to be exact! It-it helps change a person’s look by the illusion properties I enchanted this ring with. It works on dragons, werewolves, vampires, and all other sorts of mythological beings. But I’m not sure how much power this one will have, given the circumstances of Luceti. But it should work, most certainly at least when it’s not under the one hundred percent power cap or some other anti-magical shift. [ Said ring is held up to the camera and Luminair chirps in confirmation. ]

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in h-having…something of a private order type of enchanting service. I-I know that we have people here that can do so already, with specific gems and jewels from their world. Perhaps we could collaborate and, um, work together on making better more refined types of enchantments. We could probably use them to help f-fortify the defense of the village too…when you think about it! Maybe even apply defenses to the buildings and those sorts of things! If-if you’re interested in discussing it more I-I wouldn’t mind doing so at all. I think we could all benefit from such a thing, really.

[ And here he pauses looking thoughtful and rather pensive for the moment. ] It’s funny when I arrived here three years ago on this very day I never would have considered myself talking about magic so openly. Talking or evening using magic so openly, with people I-I hardly knew, in my world there’s serious ramifications for such things. But here we are, and here I am t-teaching magic like I wish to back at home. It’s a warming experience to go through, honestly. [ He wishes he would remember it once he left...if he left. Who knows if that'll happen anytime soon. And he's not sure how he feels about leaving, especially all of the people he's befriended here and the like. But like everything in this life and in general, only time may tell when such things will occur. ]

If anyone stops by the town plaza today I’ll have freshly baked cookies out for the occasion.

[ Helios likes to give something back, just to show how much he cares about the people here and how grateful he is to know them. ] It’s…sort of a way of s-saying thank you, for everything really. [ And with that Helios will turn off the video feed but leave the voice function on, in case anyone wants to talk over the journals as he goes to bake up a storm. ]

[ Action ]

[ Otherwise Helios will be found in the plaza that late afternoon with a table filled with all assortments of cookies and even a cake and pie or two. Feel free to take as much as you want, there's plenty to go around! ]

Then perhaps that could be a good start! I'm not sure who might want to help with this little project but I can definitely find out, just to have an estimate on who might stop by.

[ He knows Rei values her privacy so he'll most certainly abide by that. If there's a lot of people about it can get very...awkward and constricting. ]

Oh of course! I'm sure there's room enough for everyone. We'll...have to do some experiments to see, but I think this could be a really good idea.

I'm glad you agree. I think the more people we have in on this, the better the defense will be overall.

[ A pause. ] Perhaps I can stop by sometime soon? Maybe to just make a schematic of the place? I-I think that might help in the placement for when we eventually try this.

I'll be at the shrine all afternoon, come by anytime. I've also got rather precise plans for the layout. Before he left, Yuri-san was very exact, and I planned it very specifically too.

Alright. I'll stop by later- [ with lots of cookies ] -so maybe we can discuss it further then. I just have a few things to do in town today and then I can come on by.

[Rei spends the time cleaning up the place, and making sure everything is all neat as per usual]

[ And it'll be a few hours later when Helios stops by. More closer to dinner then anything else. He'll be outside the shrine when he finally calls out to Rei. He will have a distinct looking box of cookies and cupcakes in his arms as he waits for her to come to the entrance. ] Rei? Are you there?

[The door slides open and she steps out into the courtyard in her haori.]

Yes, I am. Please, come in out of the cold!

Oh! Right! Of course. [ Haha he totally was just making sure you were there. He'll stamp out the snow from his boots before removing them entirely, before he sets foot in the shrine. ]

I-I brought some cookies, and cupcakes, and perhaps a few pieces of p-pie. [ Because he has lots of leftovers okay? ]

Thank you, Helios-san.

[She lets him in and closes the door with a nod towards some cushions on the floor near the fire.]

Warm up, I've been keeping the fire burning high all day. It's so cold out.

[ Warming up is a good thing so Helios will go to sit by the fire, placing his package down gingerly next to him. ] It's dreadfully cold out today. I don't know either. Luceti's winters are often mild, usually.

[ He'll blow on his hands and rub them together with his gloves. ] It's nice and warm in here at least. I hope I haven't kept you too long.

No, I've had a lot of work to do. I've been a bit sick the last few days, so I've needed to catch up.

[She joins him by the fire.]

So, did your three year anniversary go well?

Oh dear. Are you feeling better? This cold is positively dreadful. I-I'm surprised more people haven't been getting sick. [ Himself included. But Helios smiles a bit more at that question. ]

It's going very well actually! [ Aside from that little run-in with Isaac today... ] It's not that much different then any other day, really.

Yes, I do live with a doctor, you know.

[Rei smiles warmly.]

I suppose it wouldn't. It must be strange. I know I feel odd, and it's only a cycle until my first year passes

Oh yes of course. I-I almost forgot. [ He lets out a sheepish laugh as he rubs the back of his head. ]

One whole year, my time does fly when you're here. I-I suppose I just...don't really think about it too often. Like back at home, the year goes by so fast that you sometimes don't realize it until, well, it's New Years!

Yes. That's true.

[It doesn't really feel like a whole year, at all.]

So, what did you want to measure? I have the plans for the building set aside. And would you like some tea?

[ Helios will look around the room, warming his hands by the fire as he does so. He'll turn and nod to Rei. ]

Oh! Uh, tea would be lovely, thank you. [ He'll pause then, thinking for a moment before replying. ]

As for things to be measured, I suppose the tree itself, and a small portion of the surrounding area should be fine.

[She sets about preparing tea, and at the same time takes out a blueprint that Yuri had left her of the building, offering it to him.]

Here's the plans for the area, but we'll go out and measure it when you've warmed up a bit.

[ Helios will take it with a gracious nod and murmur of 'thank you'. He'll unroll the blue print and lay it out away from the fire, but just enough to that the light of flames dance and cast shadows upon its wrinkled skin. ]

Hm. This could work. It's certainly a manageable space to work with. I think the ground being purified will ease the application and implementation of magics too.

Right, like a clean chalkboard. That's what I thought, anyway.

[She points out a few places, small altars around the tree and locations of wards.]

Those places are where I've invested my own energy, though.

Hm. We can certainly draw around those places. Or perhaps even incorporate it into the enchantment as well. It might act to help fortify the, ah, enchantments given that they're tied down to the place specifically.

Like anchors?

[She's got a good head for magic, but she is still new.]

Yes that's exactly what I mean! If one has prior enchantments affixed to the settlement you can compound them together and use them to make a sort of fused conglomeration and network of spells.

[ Helios smiles as he says all those and he even sounds a bit excited. The prospect of creating such a complex web of spells will most certainly be an exciting project to undertake and create. ]

It's sort of like what I have at the castle back home. There's a whole network and contemplation of spells that have been built up upon over the centuries. I think if we use this sort of tactic we can certainly create a very malleable but strong defense. And we'll even be able to fix it and add new things should we want to.

Well, that sounds like a great way to get things done. Layering defenses, and all. It makes a lot of sense.

What do you think I can do to help? Wards are where I'm best.

Ah. I'll have to talk to Harry and perhaps some other magic users here. Maybe we can come up with something first. I-I'll be sure to let you know when the time comes. This might...take a bit longer then a standard defensive spell.
