folklorist | ϡ - Chapter FortyTwo; Mythica in a winter wonderland. [action|voice]

[ Good afternoon Luceti; if you’re in town today you’ll notice some large lumbering pure white figures walking or flying about. No they aren’t harmful in the least, although the creatures they take after might argue otherwise, and they are not yetis or other such things that come out in the thickest of snowfalls. What they are the products of one derpy headmaster feeling the Christmas cheer thanks to the effects the Malnosso have put in place and him waking up very early in the morning after the snowfall last night to make said creatures. There will be various mythological snow creatures walking about today though none of them can make much noise or do much of anything, they’re pretty docile actually and if you wanted to you could probably even ride on top of them; they won't mind, really! There will be a dragon with icicles for horns and teeth in the town plaza and it'll greet people who enter the town with a happy flick of its tail. Helios will be there for a good portion of the day also making a majestic Griffin, and a snow unicorn. That’s not to say these are the only things that’ll be popping up. Other mythological creatures might be seen around as well. Phoenixes, mandrakes, minotaurs, kitsunes, Kodama in the more forested areas and even a Nue. The list is really endless and Helios has been having too much fun doing this again this year. There's a stand nearby as well with hot chocolate and other warm beverages as well. As for the mythologies most of them will be life sized but nothing too extravagant or outlandish. The tallest would be around ten or so feet tall, while others miniatures in size. They’ll all be moving and just mulling about and you can be sure they’re movements are quite like the real things if you’ve ever encountered one.

The mythologies can be interacted with through the entire day with Helios sometimes in accompaniment. And later into the afternoon Helios will be found in the town square with his snowy dragon companion making your standard issued snowmen, each one getting their own complimentary hat, scarf, and pipe. He'll take a break and eventually pull out his journal for a short little network post. Maggir and Luminair aren’t with him, due to the cold, but the snowy little dragon following Helios around sure does resemble his baby dragon back at home! ]

Ah I love it when it snows like this, there’s an ethereal sort of calm that comes with snowfall don’t you think? The way it falls silently and blankets everything in white...it’s rather beautiful and it’s come just in time. I was wondering if we were going to get any this year. [ He sounds pleased that they have though. ]

If, if anyone remembers from last year...I-ah, made a bunch of-of snow mythica around the town. S-So if you run into any today don’t be alarmed! They’re made purely out of snow a-and they're very friendly too! They tend to, um, take after the one wh-who makes them. [ Clearing his throat now. ]

If anyone has any other creatures from their own worlds they’d like to make and animate, I can certainly take requests! You’re more than welcome to ask too, don’t be shy! I do love making snowmen and it’s almost Christmas! Spreading the holiday cheer is what it’s all about right about now! Santa would probably be proud, he is a very kind and generous sort of man; he always was very good with giving out the compliments, too. Speaking of myths...has anyone heard about a being called Yuki-onna? It’s one of the better known ones in my world, Japanese in origin, but they stories describe her as a tall and beautiful woman with black hair and blue lips. She's said to be quite cold, figuratively and literally, but she also has a more motherly and good side to her too. The Snow Queen is another one, based on Yuki-onnas, and then there's even Jack Frost too! Jack Frost is...well, he's a personification of cold and crisp winter weather. He's also a variant of Old Man Winter, but the important thing to note is that Jack Frost symbolizes the youthful nature and wonder of children playing in the snow. And then there's Kuraokami, a dragon of rain and snow in Japan. He's quite the talker as well, but very good at ice sculptures. I learned that the hard way.

[ Helios laughs because that was a bad bet to get into. He totally knows this from experience guys. Not like anyone is surprised anymore. ]

I wonder if Santa will stop by Luceti too. Ah, well, that’s left to speculation at this point. It makes you wonder if the people here had someone like him to go around and give presents to them too. Or if they even had a holiday like Christmas at all. [ So many questions, so many left unanswered! ]

I do hope everyone has a good holiday though; you can never get too into the spirit of things.

[ Finally around later in the evening all the snow mythica will go back to being their snowy, sculptural selves, and can be found throughout the village in regal more natural poses. ]

"Yeah. Uh... yeah."

I stared at the dragon. It stared back at me from glittering icy eyes.

"... Did... you do this?"

Good good! It's a lovely first snowfall, very sturdy for making snow mythica...and men. [ Helios will give the dragon's side another pat with a beaming, bright, smile and he'll just walk back around to the front of it. ]

Oh! You, ah, mean the mythica running around? [ He gives a happy laugh. ] Y-Yes. It is. Just a-a little enchantment spell of mine. Nothing, um, too complex. [ Way to be modest there Helios. ] I hope none of them have given you any trouble.

"Helios, these are awesome. I couldn't even begin to do anything like this."

O-Oh. Really? [ He sounds slightly surprised but a tinge of gratitude dotes his tone as well. He laughs sheepishly and rubs the back of his head in awkward reply. Compliments from other magic users was still something he was getting used to. Back home no one would have cared about any of this, especially if it was from him. He smiles brightly and motions for Harry to come closer. ]

You could probably ride him if you wanted... [ [ Because who wouldn't want to ride a snow dragon, I mean come on?! ] They're all very friendly so, ah, n-no need to worry about them doing anything wrong.

Okay, he knew how to speak my language. Riding a snow dragon did sound pretty cool.

"Can it actually, uh... fly?"

Of course it can! He does have wings after all. [ A teasing tone as Helios laughs then. ]

Lirael and Loki tested it earlier today. He should be ready to go whenever you are. [ And at that the dragon will stretch its wings and let out a puff of smokey white air from its nostrils. ]

'He does have wings, after all.' As if it were that easy.

Maybe it was, for him. I was jealous, I'm not gonna lie. There were senior members of the White Council who couldn't pull this off.

But hey. He was offering me the chance to ride a dragon. Like I was gonna say no?

"Hell yeah, man, let's do this. All aboard."

Then lets see what Kuroakami can do, hm? [ He'll give the dragon another pat and it will obligingly bend down to allow for easier access to its back. Helios smiles letting Harry get on first before he takes the lead in the back. ]

After you.

I climbed onto the dragon's back carefully- stopping for a moment to marvel at how damn cool this was- and braced myself. I had no idea how this thing would fly.

"Okay, um... giddy-up, I guess?"

[ Giddy-up indeed! Helios will pat the snow dragon's back and then whisper a word or two under his breath. The dragon's back legs will bend and it'll shift its weight as it gets ready to kick off. And then in one powerful beat of its wings and a large push off the ground the dragon leaps into the air. Helios will cast a particular strong wind spell to give the snow dragon the extra boost it needs to get off the ground and if Harry is watching he'll see the dragon ascend higher and higher into the afternoon sky.

Helios will let out an exhilarated laugh as they go higher and higher. ]

The dragon took off, and I clung to its neck as we flew, despite the cold. As I looked down at the village below us, I couldn't help but join Helios in laughing.

"Do you have any idea what you could do with this kind of magic, Helios?"

L-Lots of things I imagine! [ Will be Helios' slightly yelled retort as the wind rushes around them. The dragon will finally stabilize and they'll be thirty or so feet in the air. The dragon will cruise around the village and then take off over the forest. ]

But, ah, I've never really thought about using for anything more then this. [ He did have that one conversation with Eggman that one time. ]

"You could make guards for the village, or... or laborers to help on the farms or to help build... or you could make flying animals to carry people around like this... hell, you could even make little house-cleaning golems. Do they have to be made of snow?"

No, not just out of snow. You can make them out of anything. The enchantment is rather broad in what it can bind to and affect. I-I mean it's definitely an idea. But the magic needed to keep them moving is...taxing, draining too. Which brings up another point. Making something for non-magic users to wear or use s-so they can use magic themselves. I-I discussed it with Lupin prior to this...I wonder if it could work. If you had a conduit between the user and the magic so that they could wield themselves, it would be fantastic!

"I've actually been working on that, but I haven't come up with much. I think the closest I've come so far is a vague idea about a potion that grants you magical talent."

Maybe we could compare notes? I know our magics slightly differ but, ah, perhaps if we tried to combine them we might get something in the middle that works for all parties involved.

"I had some notes about the- gyah!"

The dragon banked sharply and I had to cling to its neck to avoid falling off.

And that, in turn, was a sudden and unanticipated shock of cold.

"Uh, notes about the ley line project."

Oh! [ That was towards the dragon banking, and the news, but more for the dragon turning that sharply. Helios himself tightens his grip on the dragon's torso and almost falls off. But! But he doesn't and that's a good thing. Helios will laugh a little as the dragon silently straightens itself and continues onward. ]

I-I see. We can go over them when-whenever you'd like!
