ϡ - Chapter Forty-One; a new beginning [forward dated to the afternoon]

[ Anyone nearby the bridge by House 47 and House 35 will see the droids unceremoniously drop a rather disgruntled and startled blonde man into the river. Helios wasn’t awake fully at the time, but he sure is now! He is just going to sputter and flail a bit in the water before making his way towards dryer land. Helios is totally not amused by this guys, especially since it's kinda cold out. The water is also an odd shade of purple…and that grass is blue. He is just…really confused, because nothing is the right color and he’s slightly panicking from this revelation. It must be a side-effect…it has to be. And once he finally runs into people, he'll notice a strange and alarming aura around each individual person. It's a side-effect from John's tampering with his death penalty.

He’ll groggily get up and wring out his long sleeve shirt and jacket, huffing and mumbling under his breath. Not the graceful or nicest of re-entries to the enclosure. You can find Helios walking through the village, soaking wet and a bit miffed, back to his house. And once he gets there he’ll get settled, changed, and make a voice entry.]

[Voice]

I’m, ah, b-back. Thank you f-for whoever took care of the Library in my absence. Everything is well, aside from seeing things in c-color again. Surprisingly…strange and saying that is rather odd too. [ A laugh on his end. There’s a rattling noise from somewhere off in the distance. Luminair’s chirps get excited and happy as Helios gives a surprised gasp. ] Oh! Gods , is it really that time already? I-I didn’t even realize…though the time it takes is far less than your own.

[ Helios clears his throat, his tone slightly more jovial and happy than before. ] It’s a pleasure to meet all the new arrivals we’ve gotten these past few weeks. I hope everyone hasn’t had too much t-trouble settling in. The library is free to use for anyone who wants, and we also have a bookclub that meets once a month. Also if anyone has any questions about the spirits of this place, or m-magic in general, I ah wouldn’t mind assisting you in learning. There’s also a m-magic club that meets every once in awhile too! [ Some more rattling as Luminair chirps more emphatically. ]

Oh, dear, I-I wonder if it’ll last until tomorrow… [ A tapping noise as he taps a pencil on the table. ]

Ah. I-I was wondering…how many people would be interested in seeing a newborn dragon hatch? I-I think this calls for a little celebration, don’t you think Luminair? [ A happy chirp in reply is heard from somewhere off in the room. ]

If anyone wants to stop by tomorrow to see the hatching…I wouldn’t mind having a small little get together! I could make some food and-and a cake too. Anyone is welcome to come by house forty-four. We could all benefit from a little celebration once in awhile, hm?

((ooc; For Helios' return effect he is seeing people's auras, along with seeing the world in weird colors and shades. The auras that Helios are seeing, are just different facets to a person's personality. If you don't want him to see someone's aura just let me know and we can work around that! ))

[She gives him a quizzical expression, noting the surprise in his features as she walks over]

No, no, I'm here until later this afternoon for flame readings and other shrine services.

Is something wrong?

O-Oh, good. I wouldn't have wanted to keep you otherwise. [ Helios gives her a sheepish smile. He shakes his head. Must be an after effect... ]

N-No. Nothing is wrong, nothing at all. There's...no experiment going on is there?

[She gives him a flat, eyebrows raised look.]

No. But that look on your face means something's going on, yes?

I've just been, ah, seeing things is all. Nothing to worry about. It's been happening towards everyone I've met in person today. I-I think it's...people's auras. A flaming cage around you...something else with Saori and Adele as well.

[ A thin smile. ] It could be infinitely worse, so I'm certainly not complaining.

Ahh. [Rei smiles in understanding] I understand. Yes, that's my aura. I can sometimes see others, and I've seen my own in a vision before.

That doesn't sound so bad.

No it's...surprisingly tame for the- [ after effects of getting his death penalty removed. ] -the, ah, Malnosso and the effects they concoct. But I can't exactly see auras myself. I-I'm just...getting used to it is all. It'll wear out eventually so at least there's that.

It is. [Rei muses to herself, but shrugs]

Well, it's not the strangest I've seen, no. [She walks over, heading towards the practice yard in the courtyard.]

If it's not bothering you, let me show you what I've been working on.

Oh no certainly not the strangest of things to happen to me. I-I think being turned into a dragon is by far the most. [ Or being turned into a woman...which he is not going to get into. ]

It's p-perfectly alright. I do want to see what you've managed since our last lesson. [ He smiles amicably as he follows Rei. ]

I think the most interesting thing for me was becoming a Clayr. A...Charter mage from Sabriel's world. Though, that's not really a shift anymore.

[She gently brushes back her hair, exposing her own]

And yes, let me show you.

[She closes her eyes, and one hand ignites in a brilliant ball of flame, channeled from Eferin. Then she begins chanting, calling up some of her own power, a fireball forming over her own hand. And then she calls out the incantation to one of Helios' spells. A tapestry of fire explodes to life between her hands, and she completes the spell with a flick of her wrists. A screaming phoenix screams across the practice yard, and explodes the practice dummy.]

That's amazing, Rei. I-I didn't even know you could become something like that. [ He sees the symbol identical to Sabriel's own.

He nods and moves back a little to allow Rei to show him her newly learned skills. Helios' eyes widen as he watches the flaming phoenix take flight and singe and tear through the air. He half covers his eyes when it finally explodes into the practice dummy. The colors range from orange to blue in his vision. ] Rei. That was...that was amazing!

[Rei stands there proudly, pleased with herself.]

I just thought...maybe I could combine the spells to make something bigger. I've been working hard on what you taught me so far.

Ah yes. Combining spells with filial magic is something I've been trying to master myself. You seem to have a very good handle on Eferin though. I've tried to use him along with Sona to make a sort of veil with mist.

Have you? I...haven't tried that.

[She raises an eyebrow, wondering if that was something she should.]

Can you show me?

I have been playing around with them, yes.

[ Helios nods and makes a sweeping motion with his hand. His eyes glow then as a small jet of water escapes from his finger tips. And then in an instant the air heats up dramatically cause the water to steam and turn into mist. ]

It's fairly simple!

[She watches, making careful notes. Steam could be useful, yes.]

Alright...let me see if I can.

[Rei closes her eyes in concentration, and calls out the water first, then the heat. It's small, but it spreads quickly]

[ Helios watches with concentration and support as Rei tries to replicate his own spell. It's small, but it's there, and it's a pretty good first try. He beams a little a her as he looks at the small cloud of blanketing steam. ]

That's very good for your first time Rei. You'll probably have it down in no time at all I suspect.

I wonder...

[She looks at the gathering cloud, and tries manipulating the heat a little bit, moving it around and spreading it out, the cloud growing]

If you apply Sona and Tsinku a bit more you could potentially make a rain cloud, or even a thunderstorm, with just magic alone. I've been try to get down the basics of that as well. It'll be handy for when we have droughts. [ Like they did this summer. ]

It's easier to work if you're near a body of water...but you seem to be getting the hang of it.

Potentially, but...I think that's a bit much for me.

[She shrugs]

I think working with combining magic that doesn't have fire in it might be a little hard. It's the element I'm most comfortable with.

Well never say never! I think you could do it, eventually. But small steps, there's plenty of time to practice.

[ Helios purses his lips and nods. ]

We can certainly continue to do that if you wanted.

I wouldn't mind trying. But, connecting to water is hard for me.

Where would you recommend starting?

If it gives you trouble...I suggest one of the two lakes. The ocean might be good too, probably even better. The more water you're around the easier it'll be to hear Sona. I-I'd suggest trying it while it rains as well...but, ah, that might get you sick.

[ And Helios certainly doesn't want that! ]

[Rei shudders a bit as she remembers the lake and last summer's incident with the Mordicant, but nods.]

The beach would be a good place to go, I think. Does the season make any difference? Or the...elemental affinity of the user?

[ Helios doesn't see the shuddering otherwise he might have asked. Instead he taps his chin with a finger. ] I doubt the seasons do, though to be fair I'm not really sure. It's something worth investigating at any rate. But the affinity of the user plays a key factor in contacting them...

[ He hums a little. ] Though I think if you try hard enough that can be overridden.

Maybe...though water is my complete opposite.

[In more ways than one, being Sailor Mars and all]

But I can channel it a little. I hope the ocean helps. Have you thought of any more combinations?
