[ The journal’s video feed clicks on to reveal the exterior of House Castle 44, with both Helios and Saori seated outside at one of the little picnic tables in the shade of the stone tower they now call home. It’s been a few days since Saori returned home from her temporary stay with Morrigan, though it’s with bad news. The succubus had left Luceti. After discussing it with Helios, the two of them had figured that addressing that and several other things at once would be a good idea. They both had related business, after all. ]

Good afternoon Luceti.

Helios and I have a few announcements for everyone, and thought it’d be easiest if we just did them all at once.

Firstly, I regret to inform any of her friends that Morrigan Aensland has returned home. She’s left a handful of letters for most of the people that she knew, so if you knew her, please come by House 44 and I’ll pass it on to you.

[ As she finishes, Helios steps in, this time with a bit of good news to break up the bad. ]

Ah, and for my part, I’d like to announce that I’ll be restarting the Magic Club begun by Harry Dresden. We h-haven’t had a meeting for some time, but I think that it’s time we-we changed that, hm? I-I’d like for the first meeting to be a few weeks into July, if that’s alright with everyone? That way we can perhaps incorporate some New Feathers into it as well.

[ There’s another pause as they both look at one another and smile. The last announcement is something a bit fun for both of them, a way to put the troubles of the past few weeks behind them and have a little bit of fun. ]

And finally, we’ve decided to host a party for the Summer Solstice that’s coming up in a few days. We’ll be setting up a little party ground on the shore of the Southern Lake, and there will be food, music, dancing, and other things like that.

[ Saori nods, chiming in cheerily. The Solstice wasn’t a holiday in her native Japan, but there were other meanings it had for her personally, so she’s going along with it. After all, aren’t parties great? ]

Helios and I will be making quite a lot of food, and the weather promises to be absolutely splendid so please think about coming to visit. If anyone else would like to help with the preparations, we won’t turn away volunteers, either.

The Solstice is the 21st, this Friday, so please don’t forget. We’ll be starting with lunch and moving from there.

[ With a smile, Saori clicks off the video feed. But that’s not quite the end of the transmission. Helios adds yet another small announcement, filtered carefully away from a certain someone. ]

Ah, and there’s one more thing. The solstice is also Max’s birthday so…we’d like to have an extra special part of the party be for his birthday. So please mark that on your c-calendar and if you cannot make it send Max a congratulations on another year.

[ Now the feed ends for good. For housemates, people coming for letters, or people just wanting to come by to chat in person both Helios and Saori will be around House 44 all day. Don’t be shy…come on by! ]

[He wasn't particularly interested in the magic itself, but Eferin's influence wasn't easy for him to forget. Sleep came easier, but he was still wary of the flames-- although it piqued his interest in what the Filial Spirits could offer.]

[She pauses, huffing a laugh.]

And sorry I haven't been around lately. I fear I've been a poor housemate.

Saori! Hello again.

[It has been some time since they chatted - there's a glint of silver and sky-blue in one of Jack's earlobes now, and given the recent excitement he'd be glad to say that's the only unnatural hole in his skin.]

Yeah, he's not the sort to go about advertising it. But I was thinking some sort of big party after dark. Bonfires, some lights and music . . . Max has already told he he likes that sort of thing, and I think Eugene would have a blast.

After...dark? On the longest day of the year? We could extend the party into the evening, certainly.

[She seems a little confused by the idea, but nods. A celebration for the solstice, at least to her, began with the sunrise and ended at sundown but for a birthday that could change. Eugene was a nice boy, after all.]

Alright. I think that's manageable. I had some ideas for entertainment during the day but I suppose they could work just as well at night too.

Well, that doesn't answer the question, though. Are you, or aren't you? Or are you a mutant or something like that?

It's a sort of European thing, I think. Any excuse for a big fire and a party, you know. [He grins through the explanation, shrugging expressively. It's just tradition, and a fun one at that.] And if you'd like to, that's fantastic! The more the merrier. I've already been chatting with Loki - who has some great plans for a light show and ways to seriously raise the volume on the music, by the way - but multiple acts are even better!

[She looks away, clearly uncomfortable about something. It's not that she doesn't like Jack or Eugene or Max or even European traditions. But the idea of working with Loki on her ascension day is a little offputting.]

Perhaps I'll just leave that to him, then.

[Something is amiss. Jack frowns for a moment, clearly perplexed, though Saori's averted face betrays too little for him to definitely say.]

Are you sure? If you wanted to do an after-dark sort of thing, I'm sure we could sort something out . . .

[A quick shift in the filter...]

No, it's fine. The sort of celebration I've got in mind is a daylight one. It's a day with a great deal of meaning to me as well, and it is not one I would like to share with Loki. [Clearing her throat, she nods once again.] I feel that it would be an ill omen for me on my Ascension day, having one of another pantheon present. [Not entirely true, but true enough.]

[There's a subtle shift in her posture as she looks back at the camera, a neutral expression taking root. Saori doesn't want to disappoint Jack and dampen the enthusiasm, and the things that are important to her all end at sundown anyway.]

But that does not mean you and I can't work together for Max and Eugene. The things that have meaning to me all take place during the day, so I see no reason why we can't simply have two linked parties.

[Apparently Loki is a tense subject and best dropped. Jack can't say he's not curious, but he's not exactly eager to get between a pair of less-than-friendly gods.]

Before I saw the post here, I was actually thinking of the beach. Less flammable material, along with- [He almost mentions Adele, until he thinks that maybe that would be unwise too. He's not aware of specific politics between them, but it doesn't take an international diplomat to see something off about a woman one day being the mortal scion of a god and the next day putting a mountain range between their respective houses.] - well, you know. Not a whole village full of people to disturb.

[Saori sniffs faintly, having an idea of what Jack was about to say. Adele is a tense subject, and one Saori's not sure about still. Adele had simply stopped talking to her, wouldn't say why, and then left all of a sudden. Jack's not alone in his confusion regarding the changes between them, because Saori still doesn't know why Adele decided to move out, though she has gathered that it was a choice unrelated to the goddess herself.]

That's probably wise, if you intend to make a lot of noise and have bonfires. We decided on the lake because there's more space, since we don't have to deal with the tide. [Her demeanor changes again, a shift away from the unhappy thoughts that were the reason for this party in the first place.] And less sand. We thought it would be easier to set up Fredric's piano without that.
