folklorist | ϡ - Chapter Forty-One; a new beginning [forward dated to the afternoon]

[ Anyone nearby the bridge by House 47 and House 35 will see the droids unceremoniously drop a rather disgruntled and startled blonde man into the river. Helios wasn’t awake fully at the time, but he sure is now! He is just going to sputter and flail a bit in the water before making his way towards dryer land. Helios is totally not amused by this guys, especially since it's kinda cold out. The water is also an odd shade of purple…and that grass is blue. He is just…really confused, because nothing is the right color and he’s slightly panicking from this revelation. It must be a side-effect…it has to be. And once he finally runs into people, he'll notice a strange and alarming aura around each individual person. It's a side-effect from John's tampering with his death penalty.

He’ll groggily get up and wring out his long sleeve shirt and jacket, huffing and mumbling under his breath. Not the graceful or nicest of re-entries to the enclosure. You can find Helios walking through the village, soaking wet and a bit miffed, back to his house. And once he gets there he’ll get settled, changed, and make a voice entry.]

I’m, ah, b-back. Thank you f-for whoever took care of the Library in my absence. Everything is well, aside from seeing things in c-color again. Surprisingly…strange and saying that is rather odd too. [ A laugh on his end. There’s a rattling noise from somewhere off in the distance. Luminair’s chirps get excited and happy as Helios gives a surprised gasp. ] Oh! Gods , is it really that time already? I-I didn’t even realize…though the time it takes is far less than your own.

[ Helios clears his throat, his tone slightly more jovial and happy than before. ] It’s a pleasure to meet all the new arrivals we’ve gotten these past few weeks. I hope everyone hasn’t had too much t-trouble settling in. The library is free to use for anyone who wants, and we also have a bookclub that meets once a month. Also if anyone has any questions about the spirits of this place, or m-magic in general, I ah wouldn’t mind assisting you in learning. There’s also a m-magic club that meets every once in awhile too! [ Some more rattling as Luminair chirps more emphatically. ]

Oh, dear, I-I wonder if it’ll last until tomorrow… [ A tapping noise as he taps a pencil on the table. ]

Ah. I-I was wondering…how many people would be interested in seeing a newborn dragon hatch? I-I think this calls for a little celebration, don’t you think Luminair? [ A happy chirp in reply is heard from somewhere off in the room. ]

If anyone wants to stop by tomorrow to see the hatching…I wouldn’t mind having a small little get together! I could make some food and-and a cake too. Anyone is welcome to come by house forty-four. We could all benefit from a little celebration once in awhile, hm?

((ooc; For Helios' return effect he is seeing people's auras, along with seeing the world in weird colors and shades. The auras that Helios are seeing, are just different facets to a person's personality. If you don't want him to see someone's aura just let me know and we can work around that! ))

[ She peeks at him from the doorway, listening to his message before speaking up. ]

Are you all right, Helios?

[ The egg will still be rattling a little in its blanketed corner of Helios' room. He almost jumps slightly when Lirael speaks to him from the doorway. Helios turns around to greet her with a beaming smile. ] Oh! Lirael! No, no, nothing is wrong at all.

[ besides your aura being in his face, but he's trying to not mention it, okay? ] I-I think the dragon egg is about to hatch though. Which is wonderful news!

[ Oh would you look at this nerdy grin right here. A baby animal about to hatch! A dragon!

Yeah, that aura probably went all sorts of sparkly now, sorry about that. ]

Really? Can... can I come in?

[ Because boy does she want to see this. ]

[ Helios' own smile only brightens at Lirael's apparent enthusiasm and happiness. It's been awhile, and they've known each other for a few weeks now, but he's never seen her quite this happy before. Oh but seeing her aura brighten like that is even more warming. ]

Of course! Come in, come in! [ He motions to her from his kneeling position beside the thrumming egg. Luminair happily trots over to Lirael, nudding her with his snout and then tugging on her pant leg with his teeth. ] It's very warm right now, you can even feel it coming off the egg itself.

[ It's a hint of what she might have been more like had the sadder and more introvert parts of her personality not gotten so much nourishment from her life so far.

The attention from Luminair even draws a small laugh and she bends down to give him a scratch before stepping inside properly.

She heads over to kneel by the egg next to Helios, stretching out her hands and holding them over it like she's warming them by a fire.< ]

You're right, it is warm! Where did you get it from?

[ The baby dragon will chirp happily and move away for Lirael to step inside. He'll follow back over to the egg and give another chirp, curious and even compassionate sounding. Helios will smile and pet Luminair as he hums a little under his breath. ]

Adele. She got it for me, as a gift.

That was nice of her.

[ She winces a bit, somehow nice doesn't seem like an adequate word.

Then she reaches out to pet Luminair as well, smiling a little at the dragon. ]

Will be nice for you to get a friend, huh?

She didn't have to do that for me, but she did. It was...beyond nice really. [ Helios smiles warmly as he runs a hand over the velvety egg's shell.

Luminair looks back at Lirael when she asks that. He gives a very happy chirp at those words. He seems excited, if his eyes constantly shifting colors was indicative enough. ]

Luminair will be an excellent older brother, I think.

I suppose she just really likes you.

[ And where others might have meant to insinuate something with that, Lirael really just means exactly what she said. ]

Luminair will be great.

[ Her face falls a little as she thinks of the Dog, her own companion. ]

She's...a very good friend. Very, ah, n-nice. [ And Helios means just that too. He and Adele have their differences, true, but he's come to see the other woman as a part of his family here more than anything. ]

I'm sure he will. [ Helios blinks, noting Lireal's expression and actions. He frowns a little as she does so. ]

You had...someone like Luminair too, hm?

Sort of. I had a dog. Well, she's not really a dog but that's what she looks like at least.

[ Dogs typically can't change the shape of heir bodies, for example. ]

She's my best frend.

[ She doesn't say "only", but perhaps something in her hushed tone suggests that that's the way it was back where Lirael is from anyway. ]

Not really a dog...ah. Was she a familiar then? [ Animal companions of magic users might vary in her world. Helios frowns at that, he knows that feeling. He hasn't even had Luminair for a year and the little dragon already feels like a part of the family. ]

I see. Maybe one day she'll...come here as well.

No, she's just a friend... or, I don't even know. I wanted to make a Charter sending that would be like a dog and then something just... took over, and there she was. All solid and real and definitely not a sending.

A Charter sending? What's that exactly. If, if you don't mind my asking, that is.

I don't mind at all. It's... uh... Well, you use charter marks to create a sort of... creature. You can make a sending look like just about anything, and they can interact with the world to an extent.

[ Helios will let out a very curious and approving hum at that description. ] That sounds rather fascinating, almost like a spirit animal of sorts. Or-or a spirit being I should say. Familiars are another term for the same idea.

I don't know if I'm explaining it all that well, but I guess they are a little like spirits, only created by a mage.

Ah. I see. That's rather fascinating, and powerful too. Creating a full fledged spirit with only the workings of magic. [ It sounds potentially dangerous too, but it's how one uses that power that puts the danger in it. ]

They're not really alive... well, at least I don't think so, though some of them do seem to take on personalities of their own after a while.

[ Helios gives a curious look, thinking to himself for a moment. ] Do you think there's any reason as to why that is? Perhaps some sort of...not mutation, but um, a portion of the spell going wrong maybe? Or-or maybe it just...depends on the person casting the spell, and how their power grows and affects the world around it.

I think it does have a little to do with the person who makes the sending, and perhaps the spell fraying a little at the edges over time, so to speak.

[ She hrugs, frowning a little since she doesn't like being unable to answer questions, especially not about magic. ]

Maybe one day I can figure it out. I think you're on to something with your guesses.
