folklorist | ϡ - Chapter Forty-One; a new beginning [forward dated to the afternoon]

[ Anyone nearby the bridge by House 47 and House 35 will see the droids unceremoniously drop a rather disgruntled and startled blonde man into the river. Helios wasn’t awake fully at the time, but he sure is now! He is just going to sputter and flail a bit in the water before making his way towards dryer land. Helios is totally not amused by this guys, especially since it's kinda cold out. The water is also an odd shade of purple…and that grass is blue. He is just…really confused, because nothing is the right color and he’s slightly panicking from this revelation. It must be a side-effect…it has to be. And once he finally runs into people, he'll notice a strange and alarming aura around each individual person. It's a side-effect from John's tampering with his death penalty.

He’ll groggily get up and wring out his long sleeve shirt and jacket, huffing and mumbling under his breath. Not the graceful or nicest of re-entries to the enclosure. You can find Helios walking through the village, soaking wet and a bit miffed, back to his house. And once he gets there he’ll get settled, changed, and make a voice entry.]

[Voice]

I’m, ah, b-back. Thank you f-for whoever took care of the Library in my absence. Everything is well, aside from seeing things in c-color again. Surprisingly…strange and saying that is rather odd too. [ A laugh on his end. There’s a rattling noise from somewhere off in the distance. Luminair’s chirps get excited and happy as Helios gives a surprised gasp. ] Oh! Gods , is it really that time already? I-I didn’t even realize…though the time it takes is far less than your own.

[ Helios clears his throat, his tone slightly more jovial and happy than before. ] It’s a pleasure to meet all the new arrivals we’ve gotten these past few weeks. I hope everyone hasn’t had too much t-trouble settling in. The library is free to use for anyone who wants, and we also have a bookclub that meets once a month. Also if anyone has any questions about the spirits of this place, or m-magic in general, I ah wouldn’t mind assisting you in learning. There’s also a m-magic club that meets every once in awhile too! [ Some more rattling as Luminair chirps more emphatically. ]

Oh, dear, I-I wonder if it’ll last until tomorrow… [ A tapping noise as he taps a pencil on the table. ]

Ah. I-I was wondering…how many people would be interested in seeing a newborn dragon hatch? I-I think this calls for a little celebration, don’t you think Luminair? [ A happy chirp in reply is heard from somewhere off in the room. ]

If anyone wants to stop by tomorrow to see the hatching…I wouldn’t mind having a small little get together! I could make some food and-and a cake too. Anyone is welcome to come by house forty-four. We could all benefit from a little celebration once in awhile, hm?

((ooc; For Helios' return effect he is seeing people's auras, along with seeing the world in weird colors and shades. The auras that Helios are seeing, are just different facets to a person's personality. If you don't want him to see someone's aura just let me know and we can work around that! ))

That actually might work! I think he'd do well to learn a few lessons in regards to eating too much. We can't let him get too plump now can we?

[ Luminair gives a small indignant little chirp, eyes narrowing ever so slightly. He so totally is not plump, it's baby fat okay? Helios just blinks back at the little dragon and laughs, petting the baby dragon affectionately as he does so. ]

Oh, no, it was nothing like that...I don't think. It's hard to, ah, remember all the details.

I wouldn't mind that at all. A nice cup of tea and sharing spells? I can't think of anything more fitting. [ Helios smiles and laughs as he follows Loki. ]

It...shouldn't be. Just down the road and past the town plaza if I'm not mistaken. [ He'd offer to go to house 44, but he knows that Loki is being kind in offering to take him back to his apartment. A nice walk might do him some good in getting used to all these colors. ]

Like...this?

[Rei sketches the sigils in the dirt from memory, pretty much perfectly, as one might expect from a student of ancient calligraphy.]

[This would mean Helios has been the first person he has ever invited to his quarters. What an excellent milestone, it would almost be worthy of a celebration of some sort.]

Aye, it is an excellent deal. As expected from my most brilliant mind.

[Loki points at his head to emphasize his statement.]

I do believe you're right. But I also know a shortcut.

[He knows his way around the village already and all the interesting shortcuts that make his life in the land of Luceti so much easier.]

The shorter cut or extreme, vile cold?

Knew I forgot somethin'! I'm Red Savarin. [He holds out a hand for a cordial handshake.] Nice to meet you!

Hey, before we get started, what kinda things are on that test?

"If you did the cooking, it would be a pretty weak offer on my part, wouldn't it? I think I can manage something. Even if it's just pasta." I laughed. "If all else fails, we'll just go out to eat."

[ Helios laughs rubbing the back of his neck and smiling all the while. He did have a point. ] I-I can at least make some dessert.

[ Because being offered to join someone for Thanksgiving and not bring anything is so out of Helios' abilities. ]

It's a pleasure! [ Helios gives the other a cordial smile and a shake with his gloved hand. ]

Oh, um, just simple questions about math and science. Those sorts of things. It's nothing to be worried about. It's just placement tests after all!

I do not think there is such thing as 'too plump' in regards to Luminair, Helios.

[She reaches across to give the little fussing dragon a faint poke in the side, tapping it's cuddly frame.]

Then it's naught but cruelty.

That doesn't sound too bad. I'll have to check out some books later and get to studyin'.

[Red pauses for a moment, sighing softly and staring up at the building.] Anyway, we better get the tour started.

"Sure. Just... like I said, don't be too surprised if my cooking sucks." I laughed. "Usually on Thanksgiving I just went to Mac's."

I'm sure it'll turn out fine, Harry. Besides it's the atosmphere that counts the most for these sorts of things! Granted the holiday itself is important but, well, I think celebrating it in good company is even more so.

No it's not at all! It's a quick test too, only a few questions, and there's no pressure whatsoever.

[ Helios smiles and then goes forward to pull open the door, staring back at the other for a few moments. Red had...and interesting aura to say the least. But Helios won't stare for too long before realizing its poor manners and the poor boy will probably think Helios judging him based on how he looks. A town full of humans can't be too terribly comfortable to get situated in at first. ] Oh! Um, yes of course, right this way!

You're quite right. He'll grow out of it, anyway. He's not even a year old after all.

[ Luminair chirps again and shifts at Adele's poke. He clicks his tongue and stretches his wings as well. ] I wonder if he and the new dragon on the way will get along.

Yes I do hope so! Luminair could use another little brother or sister.

She didn't have to do that for me, but she did. It was...beyond nice really. [ Helios smiles warmly as he runs a hand over the velvety egg's shell.

Luminair looks back at Lirael when she asks that. He gives a very happy chirp at those words. He seems excited, if his eyes constantly shifting colors was indicative enough. ]

Luminair will be an excellent older brother, I think.

[ Helios watches and nods at Rei's final sigils. They were very well done for her first time writing these sorts out. ]

Yes that's exactly right! You're quite the natural at sigil drawing. Most people need to practice for years to get it to look so neat. [ Even his own sometimes is pretty mediocre. ]

[She smiles at the praise, but shrugs]

They aren't much different from kanji. Once I see them, I have no trouble, usually.

Well runes are certainly like it. But it's still hard for people to memorize at the beginning. I think you'll be fine to start learning more intricate sigils.

Do you? Um, do you have a spellbook I could practice with?

Of course! I wouldn't mind letting you practice with one. I know, ah, Haruhi and Spock have one. I'm sure I can find another, or somehow make a copy of it.

So it is all babyfat, yes?

[Luminair's chirp of protest has her giggling. He was always and ever the most adorable thing to her.] I certainly hope so.

[ Helios laughs, very amused and very much in good spirits despite coming back as a cold wet mess. ] Yes that's exactly what it is!

[ Luminair huffs in agitation and flicks his tail as he does so. ] As do I. I think everything will be alright. Luminair is quite sociable for his age. [ He smiles and pets the little dragon. ]

Perhaps he can teach them a thing or two.

I hope he only passes along the better habits.

[Adele shakes her head at the little dragon and starts taking the dirty dishes to the sink to start washing them.]

Otherwise we'll have two dragons stealing pens and whatever takes their fancy.
