Magic is much the same...well in a way. Certain steps and certain runes have to be used in the right ways in order to get results. It's...n-not science but the whole using materials to get a product are somewhat the same. Al-alchemy is more along those lines, which I do admit, alchemy isn't one of my strong suits. But sigils and runes I can do quite well. Putting them together and taking them apart and adding or subtracting things from them. But it's all going to end up the same if you apply them wrong.
